The Park / Farm Technician will be responsible for:
Please note: (Estimated 20 hours a week of this position is trimming) 10 hours mowing and 10 hours miscellaneous.
- Delivers maintenance services to one location in Galena year round including but not limited to Mowing, Trimming, Pest Control, Mosquito Control, Fertilization, Weed Control, and other beneficial lawn related services.
- Gives recommendations to improve the lawn quality of location grounds
- Completes all paperwork properly and in a timely manner
- Provides exceptional customer service to existing customer
- Maintains the cleanliness of the assigned equipment
- Maintains a professional personal appearance
- Reports to the Operations Department (Monday to Friday with some seasonal Saturday work required) / Independent Route Manager
The position applicant will need to meet the following:
- High school diploma or GED
- A minimum of 6 months of maintenance service and/or general labor experience
- Able to lift and carry 50 pounds when needed
- Valid driver’s license
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Excellent time management, organizational, and multi-tasking skills.
The best candidates will have (but don't need):
- College coursework
- Previous experience in Lawn Care, Landscaping or Pest Control, Ag, Forestry, Horticulture,
This is a Monday - Friday position.
Other Examples of Duties
These positions require working outdoors in all weather conditions, performing light to heavy manual labor and maintenance work, as well as operating a variety of hand tools and power equipment. The nature of this classification may subject the successful candidate to emergency call-ins, irregular, or weekend shifts when events take place. Other Specific duties in the following divisions may include:
Property Operations
- Trimming, Trash removal, Mowing, bed maintenance
- Irrigation, seeding fields, and equipment maintenance
- Maintaining pool & spa area’s, feeding basic live stock animals, clearing walkways, and related park structures and facilities
- Operating a variety of hand tools (shovel, rake, handsaw, etc.)
- Assisting with community special events
Forestry
- Pruning, planting, removal, and stump grinding
- Watering, fertilizing, and pesticide application
- Operating light to heavy equipment (such as trucks, backhoes, bobcats, chainsaws, leaf-blowers, chippers, water tanks/pumps, and fertilizer applicators)
Horticulture
- Planting, pruning, and general maintenance of all landscape plants located in park. This includes all trees, shrubs, perennials, and annual plant material.
- Mulching landscape beds located in park
- Watering newly installed plant material
- Fertilizer and pesticide application in landscape beds
- Operation of several pieces of equipment with all training provided
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Possession of a valid State of Ohio Driver's License
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous grounds maintenance, forestry, or horticulture experience desirable
- H.S. Diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent certificate highly desirable
Other Physical Requirements May Include:
- Physical strength, agility, and endurance to perform all essential functions
- Ability to transfer and carry heavy objects
- Ability to exert in excess of 75-125 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50-100 pounds of force frequently
- Ability to maneuver over/under equipment and in small work areas while performing essential functions
- Ability to dig, bend, lift, and work in confined spaces
- Ability to demonstrate dexterity in the use of hands and feet
- Ability to walk long distances and/or work while standing for long periods of time
- Ability to perform tasks requiring stooping, bending, climbing ladders/stairs, etc.
- Ability to operate a variety of light and medium motorized vehicles
- Ability to work under emergency conditions in support of fire and police operations
- Ability to utilize appropriate protective clothing and equipment around hazardous chemicals/conditions
- Ability to utilize necessary protective clothing and equipment to avoid potential dangers from pesticides
