The Lead Cable Technician is responsible for overseeing the installation, maintenance, and repair of cable systems for data and telecommunications. This role involves managing a team of technicians, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality and safety.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Management:
- Plan, coordinate, and execute cable installation projects.
- Ensure all work is completed in compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Monitor project progress and provide regular updates to management.
- Manage project timelines, resources, and budgets effectively.
Team Leadership:
- Supervise and lead a team of cable technicians.
- Assign tasks and responsibilities to team members.
- Provide training and mentorship to junior technicians.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback.
Technical Expertise:
- Install, terminate, and test various types of cables including CAT5, CAT6, fiber optic, and coaxial.
- Troubleshoot and resolve cable system issues.
- Perform site surveys and develop installation plans.
- Ensure proper labeling and documentation of cable installations.
Quality Assurance:
- Conduct inspections to ensure the quality of work meets company standards.
- Implement and maintain best practices for cable installation and maintenance.
- Address and resolve any quality control issues.
Safety Compliance:
- Ensure all work is performed in accordance with safety regulations and company policies.
- Conduct regular safety meetings and trainings.
- Identify and mitigate potential safety hazards on site.
Customer Relations:
- Communicate effectively with clients to understand their needs and provide solutions.
- Address client concerns and provide timely resolutions.
- Maintain a high level of customer satisfaction.
Qualifications:
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent. Technical certification or associate degree in a related field preferred.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in cable installation and maintenance.
- Previous experience in a leadership or supervisory role.
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of cable systems, including copper, fiber optic, and coaxial.
- Proficiency in using cable testing equipment and tools.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong leadership and team management abilities.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
Certifications:
- Relevant industry certifications (e.g., BICSI, ETA, FOA) are a plus.
Working Conditions:
- Work may be performed in various environments including office buildings, industrial sites, and outdoor locations.
- Ability to lift heavy equipment and work in confined spaces.
- May require travel to different job sites and occasional overnight stays.
- Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, and climb ladders for extended periods.
- Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
