Role Description
We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Victim Compensation Specialist/ Victim Advocate to join our team. The ideal candidate will have prior experience submitting victim compensation applications to the Florida Bureau Compensation and/or The Mayland Compensation Board along with extensive knowledge of victim services and resources. They will play a crucial role in assisting victims through the compensation process, providing guidance, support, and referrals as needed.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing the intake process for victims and survivors of crime, as well as providing case management and follow-up services. The ideal candidate will also assist in developing and implementing victim services programs, as well as maintaining relationships with community partners.
Responsibilities:
- Guide victims through the process of filing compensation claims, ensuring accuracy and completeness of documentation.
- Provide compassionate support to victims, addressing their concerns and answering their questions.
- Collaborate with law enforcement agencies, medical professionals, and other stakeholders to gather necessary information for compensation claims.
- Stay updated on changes to victim compensation laws, regulations, and procedures.
- Maintain detailed records of all interactions and activities related to compensation claims.
- Assist in the development and implementation of training programs for victim specialists.
- Contribute to the ongoing improvement of our platform and services, providing insights and suggestions for enhancements.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 year of experience working as a Victim Compensation Specialist, Victim Claims Specialist or Victim Advocate, preferably in Florida and Maryland
- Have submitted victim compensation claims
- Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Criminal Justice, Psychology, or related fields or work experience
- Certification in victim advocacy or related fields preferred
- Completed a Victim Services Practitioner Designation Training for Florida candidates
- Strong understanding of victim compensation laws, regulations, and procedures.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to empathize with victims and provide support.
- Proficiency in using technology and software systems.
- Understanding of victim rights and resources available
- Compassionate and patient demeanor, with a genuine desire to help others.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
