Optician Job Description
Pearle Vision’s opticians strive to provide the highest level of patient satisfaction, by performing numerous customer service tasks while displaying a friendly and knowledgeable demeanor.
These tasks are as follows but not limited to:
- Assisting patients to find the perfect frame that aligns with the style aesthetics, while ensuring it fits their face shape, is optimal to accommodate patient prescription, and is sized appropriately to fit the patients face.
- Taking eyeglasses measurements including inter-pupillary distance, segment height, ocular center height, and vertex distance.
- Measure clients' bridge, eye size, temple length, vertex distance, pupillary distance, and optical centers of eyes, using mm ruler.
- Adjusting patients’ frames so they fit the patient’s face comfortably, and to the patient satisfaction while ensuring the lenses are positioned for best optics.
- Educated patients on all available lens options that they maybe interested in.
- Verifying that finished lenses are ground to correct prescribed parameters.
- Assembling glasses by inserting cut lenses in all frame types; metal, zyl, semi-rimless, and drilled rimless.
- Repairing glasses; screw or nose pad replacements, use of glue, tape and/or shrink tubing.
- Creating work order trays and/or computer notes to ensure glasses are made and ordered correctly.
- Performing simple bookkeeping, all opticians are responsible for completing DBR. (daily sales spreadsheet.)
- Must offer all patients applicable store promotions.
- Must give patients all insurance discount in accordance of contracts.
- Tracking of personal sales for commission-based compensation.
- Determining a patient’s current lens prescriptions, when necessary, using lensometer.
- Training patients on completing contact lens insertion and removal classes. This class may take up to one hour.
Some patients may need more then one class.
- Obtaining a customer's current or previous record from other clinics.
- Maintaining a clean and orderly sales floor, along with daily housekeeping tasks; cleaning surfaces, bathrooms, mirrors, taking garbage out, and vacuuming.
- Arranging and maintain displays of optical merchandise.
- Each optician is individually assigned a quality control maintenance task. (reordering contacts, scanning, ect.)
Our store has a Receptionist / Technician scheduled during all exam hours. All opticians are required to be proficient in Receptionist/ Technician’s job descriptions.
Receptionist / Technician Job Description includes the follow tasks and responsibilities:
- Answer the phone, provide information to callers and/or direct them to the proper staff.
- Schedule various appointment types. (exams, office visits, follow-ups, contact lens trainings, purchasing, repairs, and adjustments)
- Preforming pre-testing on patients: o Autorefractor (measure refractive error) o Auto-lensometer (reading patients glasses prescriptions) o Tonometry (IOP inter-ocular pressures) o Optos (retinal imaging)
- Verifying all patient insurances.

Pay: $45,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
