ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Performs advanced and specialized professional level nursing work in providing primary, preventative, and rehabilitative care to individuals and families in public health programs through managing a program-level activity as Clinic Coordinator for the assigned public health nursing program through essential functions such as: Participates in program or agency-wide planning and quality assurance activities; serves as charge nurse in one or more clinic settings; provides nursing assessment; establishes and implements a plan of care; data entry of patient medical record in the Electronic Health Record (EHR); reviews and updates standing orders, local policies, program policy, and procedure manuals annually; receives and processes all program reports; completes surveillance reports as necessary, gathering data and information from physicians, hospitals, patients, or family members; provides the public and providers with program information and guidance; does related work as required. Work is usually self-planned and coordinated with the team. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Public Health Nursing Director I.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
- Thorough knowledge of and skill in the application of nursing theory, practice, principles, and techniques employed in the field of public health and related programs
- Considerable knowledge of available resources and organizations and the ability to coordinate these as needed
- General knowledge of current social and economic problems relating to public health, including health disparities
- Ability to plan, coordinate, and oversee the work of others
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrative staff, medical staff, associates, and the general public
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing which includes a Public Health Nursing rotation from an appropriately accredited institution and two (2) years of Public Health nursing experience OR
- Master’s Degree in Public Health from an appropriately accredited institution and graduation from a school of professional nursing and two (2) years of professional nursing experience OR
- Graduation from a school of professional nursing and three (3) years of professional nursing experience, including two (2) years of Public Health nursing experience OR
- An equivalent combination of education and experience
*** This position is classified as a Public Health Nurse III; however, Public Health Nurse I or II “work against” will be considered if no qualified Public Health Nurse III applicants are available.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- ***This is a safety sensitive position subject to random drug screenings.
- Must possess and maintain a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina by the N.C. Board of Nursing
- Must possess and maintain a valid North Carolina driver’s license
