The Production Planner is responsible for planning, scheduling, and coordinating, and/or monitoring final approval of products through the complete production cycle to meet assembly production requirements as well as customer optics demands. The selected candidate will work from engineering drawings and production specifications to ensure materials are provided according to schedules. They will advise management of the status of work in progress, coordinate with manufacturing, quality, and supply chain and interfaces with engineering and program management. Ensure availability of materials and labor to meet production requirements and delivery commitments. Works to resolve labor and material shortages, backlogs, and other potential schedule interruptions. Planning project and work center schedule execution to optimize efficiency and maintain high-quality standards. Minimal supervision of daily activities will be required with independent judgment relative to work activities expected.
Key Responsibilities:
- Proactively plan daily and long-term production schedules based on stock, demand forecasts, customer orders, and production efficiency.
- Ensure program demand is translated into predictable, production-centered schedules that allow the production team to be successful.
- De-conflict and optimize scheduling of shared areas and multi-program lines.
- Provide and oversee manufacturing priorities to ensure on-time delivery and offer solutions for any potential schedule discrepancies.
- Monitor short-term capacity demands at work center levels, identifying raw material dates and projected deliveries.
- Coordinate daily with manufacturing supervisors, procurement, and warehouse staff to evaluate production schedule changes and monitor material usage.
- Be an active member in the deployment and sustainment of SIOP. Participate actively in production and operations planning meetings and contribute insights to optimize processes.
- Issue work orders with consideration for available raw stock and capacity. Interface with Purchasing to resolve due date and shortage issues prior to work order release to support customer delivery/contract dates.
- Manages the work order process to include revision control, material availability, work order release, start and completion date maintenance, material allocation changes, work center labor requirements, material, and labor variance analysis, and released BOM’s and routers. Maintain accurate work order dates and material consumption records in the ERP system.
- Evaluate manufacturing and procurement challenges, devising solutions in collaboration with management.
- Generate and analyze complex reports utilizing Microsoft Excel, PowerBI to guide decision-making processes related to scheduling and production.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives in collaboration with manufacturing management to enhance production quality and yield.
- Ensure alignment of production schedules with MRP systems
- Assist in special projects as required to support operational excellence.
Qualifications:
- Scheduling and forecast planning experience with expertise in supply chain dynamics, encompassing logistics, manufacturing planning, and proficient demand replenishment comprehension.
- Must understand ERP Manufacturing Planning Systems, ideally Visual Manufacturing ERP and Crystal Reports (preferred).
- Experience and understanding of requirements in the requisitioning, purchasing, stocking, control, and issuance of inventory.
- Advanced and creative problem-solving, coupled with impactful communication.
- Strong analytical skills with great attention to detail bringing a history of successful data analysis and advanced Excel proficiency.
- The capability to adeptly manage interruptions, consistently meet deadlines, and skillfully navigate conflicts.
- APICS Certification (CPIM or CSCP) a plus
Experience and Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience or Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience OR in lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience
- 5+ years of optical manufacturing planning a plus
- U.S. Person required
- Experience working in MRP/ERP Systems required
- ISO 9000, AS9100, Malcolm Baldrige, or other Quality Management System Training/ Experience a plus
