Position Summary:
The Plant Manager is responsible for leading the day-to-day manufacturing operations of the Company. The position is a leadership role that oversees Manufacturing, Packaging, Shipping, Receiving, and Sanitation of a three-shift operation. The role establishes plant policies and procedures to assure food and personnel safety; ensure the production schedule is optimized and consistently on-time; assures the compliance of all quality systems, regulations, and procedures; plan, organize, direct, and optimize day-to-day operations to exceed yields, delivery, and efficiencies; and maintain an audit ready, world class facility at all times.
The Plant Manager champions a Continuous Improvement culture and identifies and implements opportunities to improve quality of products and services, control and decrease costs, enhance food and employee safety, and improve all aspects of our business. This leader is pivotal in the engagement of team members to create and maintain a happy, healthy workplace.
Major Responsibilities:

Lead and direct Manufacturing, Packaging, Shipping, Receiving, and Sanitation departments to remove waste and continuously improve food and employee safety, quality, efficiency, delivery and costs.

Lead and develop a Continuous Improvement (CI) culture, utilizing principles and techniques of Lean manufacturing including 5-S, Gemba, one-point lessons, problem solving with root-cause analysis, and Value Stream Mapping (VSM). Lead process improvement for the entire supply chain inside of Sconza.

Ensures manufacturing capabilities to meet or exceed all industry and customer requirements for safety, delivery, quality, and cost.

Ensure effective food safety and product handling protocols and practices are in place and followed.

Lead, coach, enforce, empower and direct hourly and salaried team members to perform and achieve Company values, strategies, objectives, KPI's, processes and policies.

Oversee manufacturing business plans to include all program requirements, labor hours, cycle, and production costs.

Drive compliance to meet all GMPs, state and federal environmental regulations, and employee welfare requirements.

Develop, train and guide employees to understand and follow Standard Work, SOPs, SSOPs, and Quality standards.

Guide development of a manufacturing process plan, including personnel requirements, material needs, facility needs, and tooling and equipment needs.

Establish safety as a top priority in training, equipment, job design, work assignments and regulatory compliance, including helping enhance the Safety Committee, driving regular safety inspections and improvements, compliance with all OSHA regulations, and managing the Company's IIPP's.

Work closely with cross functional teams on manufacturing plans, capacity requirements and new product commercialization (Stage Gate). Ensure all required resources are addressed and obtained to ensure successful product launches.

Work closely with sales and supply chain to optimize customer and vendor needs.

Key stakeholder in research for budgeting, purchasing and implementation of new equipment and services.

Develop and manage Company and department objectives, initiatives, and KPI's, such as OEE, production labor, costs/unit, yields/purge, safety incidents and issues, etc. to meet and exceed targets and goals.

Prepare, control, and execute the annual budgets for the areas of responsibility.

Enable company sustainability strategies and initiatives to move to a zero waste facility, providing leadership to foster this behavior.

Review production and operating reports and direct the resolution of operational, manufacturing and maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays.

Establish lean manufacturing policies and techniques for materials usage, shipping and receiving, capacity planning, production scheduling, safety, customer satisfaction, employee relations and performance measuring.

Collaborate to improve overall Quality Assurance programs with the Food Safety Manager.

Effectively manage and ensure positive employee relations to promote an engaged and happy workplace.

Ensure workplace safety guidelines are in place and followed by all management and operating staff.

Develop and implement specific plant policies and procedures.

Ensure proper staffing of plant to meet production levels, goals, and growth initiatives.

Assume additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or state issued equivalency.

Bachelors Degree in manufacturing, industrial, engineering, or other related field preferred.

Proven strong leadership, communication (verbal and written), and administrative skills.

7-10 years of manufacturing experience which includes plant leadership responsibility in a fast-growth, food manufacturing environment. Experience in chocolate and / or confectionery preferred.

Well organized with ability to multitask.

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
-
Strong systems knowledge and skillset, including ERP, MRP and WMS.

Advanced knowledge of computer software applications, with proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Excel, Outlook, Word & PowerPoint).

Union experience a plus.

Understands financial reporting and budgets to ensure productions costs remain under budget.
The pay for this role in the state of CA ranges from $140,000 to $200,000 per hour based on years of experience, position responsibilities and geographic location.
