Position Summary: The Art Coordinator is responsible for effectively planning, implementing, and evaluating developmentally appropriate programs, activities, and special events that engage members in the art for youth grades 5th- 8th. The art coordinator may also be responsible for the coordination of collaborative partnerships with guest artists and groups. This position will engage club members in a variety of art disciplines and mediums and support the mission of the Boys & Girls Club of Stoneham Youth and Teen Center. The art coordinator will work closely with the Art Program Director and Site Director to implement effective programming for the community the youth and teen center serves.
Responsibilities:
- Plan, organize, and implement various art program services and activities that prepare youth for success.
- Strive for youth to express themselves creatively by creating programs that allow for self-expression and youth voice.
- Submit requests for program supplies and materials to direct supervisors at least one week in advance.
- Create opportunities for Club member recognition by displaying artwork within program area(s) and throughout the Club.
- Recruit Club members into Arts programs and encourage participation
- Ensure continuous quality improvement by monitoring and evaluating program achievement against target goals and recommending and implementing modifications that respond to member needs and interests.
- Promote a safe, positive environment by supervising Club members in assigned program areas and throughout the Club.
- Submit a monthly program schedule outlining daily program activities to the site director.
- Develop supportive relationships with Club members.
- Act as a positive role model.
- Utilize appropriate group and individual behavior management techniques to promote positive behaviors.
- Exercise authority in problems relating to members.
- Oversee the organization and inventory of program supplies, materials, equipment, and other resources belonging to the program area(s).
- Maintain cleanliness and upkeep of program area(s) and assisted with completing the Club site’s cleaning checklists.
- Manage assigned volunteers and provide ongoing feedback.
- Respond to communications promptly.
- Attend staff meetings, professional development sessions, and training sessions as required.
- Assume other duties as assigned.
- Manage the appearance of the site during seasonal events [ holidays, club talent shows, other club events, etc.]
- Running camp-like programs during scheduled school vacations, where the club will be open and operating as a "camp.” These times include February, April, and summer vacations.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Have a wide range of experience, knowledge, and interest in the Arts [ drawing, painting, 3D, digital, photography, and other nontraditional art mediums.]
- Completion or pursuit of a higher education degree in a related field is preferred
- Prior experience working with children is preferred
- A high degree of initiative, self-direction and creativity
- Strong organizational and communication skills

- Ability to maintain excellent working relationships with staff, volunteers, and the public.
- Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds
- Ability to be trained in First Aid/CPR
- Ability to pass a reference check and background check
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
- Standing or walking for multiple hours a day
- Pushing or lifting of up to 50lbs
- Ability to handle high noise levels for extensive periods
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
