Overview:
Barry Wehmiller Flexible Systems (BWFS) Bag Filling and Palletizing provides complex packaging solutions to a base of global industrial customers. The Senior Field Service Technician (FST) acts as the primary technical interface for BWFS to the customer by providing detailed technical assistance and on-site support by installing, servicing, troubleshooting, and optimizing these production lines. Further, recommending preventative maintenance and optimized production solutions is a key area of success for this role. The FST works closely with end-use customers as well as internal Sales, Customer Service, Engineering and Manufacturing team members to troubleshoot and repair designated equipment. This role is responsible for driving customer satisfaction through service excellence. The Field Service Technician encourages others to discover, develop and apply their talents by providing real world feedback into the business and enabling others to reach their full potential; actively engages in our Lean journey by building and acting on continuous improvement and development opportunities.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Troubleshoot and perform repairs and modifications on the mechanical, electrical, or programmed controls aspects of complex integrated industrial packaging equipment at customer sites to customer’s satisfaction.
- Assist in the installation, start-up, checkout, validation and testing of existing and new equipment installations.
- Work independently to analyze and efficiently resolve malfunctions by means of online interface and at customer location.
- Interact with personnel at customer sites to provide insight on the safety, proper operation, and preventative maintenance of equipment to improve efficiency of customer productivity.
- Build and maintain strong customer relationships through oral, written and verbal communication. Become a strong advocate of the Company and build realistic and achievable expectations with the customer.
- Act as liaison between customer and internal departments to ensure progress and quality of service.
- Effectively perform administrative tasks including job status reporting, materials needed, site time and resources used as well as expenses incurred.
- Provide remote and onsite technical support to end use customers
- Communicate information regarding material changes made to customer equipment through appropriate internal departments so updates to technical documentation can be made (manuals, drawings, program files, documentation, and in-house training program.)
- Provide assistance and detailed information for accurate and timely updating of technical documentation related to changes made onsite.
- Help to ensure projects are executed and completed within quoted margin expectation.
- Complies with all Company and customer safety regulations and procedures and maintains a clean, safe and orderly work area.
- Continuous improvement mindset, lean process mindset.
- All other duties as assigned.
Essential Qualifications:
- A two-year post high school diploma/certificate in electro-mechanical technology (mechatronics) and a minimum of 3 years related experience, OR a high school diploma and a minimum of 7 years relevant experience.
- Knowledge of mechanical, pneumatic, and electronic controls systems along with a strong understanding of material handling integrations.
- Excellent customer relations and interpersonal relations skills including a high degree of diplomacy and emotional intelligence.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment at various locations and in constantly changing environments.
- Experience in understanding and modifying PLC Programming preferably in both ladder logic and structured text
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft office suite.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and passport
Desirable Qualifications:
- Basic CAD knowledge.
- Ability to speak Spanish, and/or Dutch

- Requires a high degree of technical affinity, often working in stressful situations.
- Concentration and accuracy are needed to successfully balance a variety of competing priorities while focusing on successful execution of the project.
- Uses a variety of hand-powered tools and compliance with safety regulations.
- Communicates equipment issues and resolution to operators.
- Majority f work is carried out standing or squatting, climbing, crawling and lifting is common. Ability to lift 50lbs is required.
- Operates machines through trial run to ensure that quality and rate of production meet specifications.
- Open to remote locations along the West Coast highly desirable.
- Communicates clearly and professionally.
- Clearly demonstrates and trains customer personnel in basic machinery operation including adjusting, maintaining, optimizing, and repairing equipment.
- Repairs or coordinates repair of worn or defective machinery and related equipment.

The approximate pay range for this position is $90,000-110,000 annually. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate at the time of posting and may vary based on factors such as background, knowledge, skills, abilities, and geographic location of the position
