Schedule: 7.5 hrs/day; 181 days per year, plus holiday pay
Starting Pay: $23.00/Hour

SUMMARY:
District 113 is currently seeking a highly motivated individual who enjoys working with students who have autism and related disabilities. The ISEP’s primary role is to assist in all aspects of the daily instructional program for special education students. The ISEP staff may be responsible for small group instruction under the direct supervision of the teacher or other person designated by District 113 to direct or supervise the ISEP staff. This ISEP will support the District 113 student outcomes vision and help students become successful, happy adults in the home, school, work, and community by providing programs and services that ensure students:
a) acquire/use knowledge and skills, b) interact well with others and have friends, c) take appropriate action to meet their needs, d) care about and contribute to society, and e) take actions to maintain health and wellness
The ISEP will participate in activities necessary to maintain classroom integration and to support a child’s IEP in all curricula activities which include classroom, community, vocational, recreational/leisure, and domestic domains as directed.
The ISEP will participate and obtain certification in nonviolent crisis intervention strategies, obtain certification required for a school bus permit in order to drive a school vehicle, and participate in training required for assisting students with personal needs (toileting & feeding).
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervises students and gives instructional assistance if needed.
Essential Job Functions:
- Assist the teacher in the preparation of materials.
- Conduct individual and small group instruction under the direction of the teacher.
- Assist in behavior management under the direction of the teacher.
- Assist in toileting and feeding under the direction of the teacher. This may include the need to physically assist in keeping a child safe using NVCI strategies.
- The ability to assist students with limited physical mobility.
- Participate in team planning meetings, staffing meetings, and parent conferences as requested by the teacher.
- Participate in in-service programs, professional meetings, and professional development, as requested by the teacher or administrator.
- Participate in community and vocational instruction within or outside the school facility not to exceed 80% of their working time.
- Lift students who weigh over 50 pounds.
- Assist in physical restraint of students for the safety of the students and others. This may include the need to physically assist in keeping a child safe using NVCI (Nonviolent Crisis Intervention) strategies.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and support personnel to improve services for students.
- Perform such other duties and services under the teacher’s direction as may be related to the smooth functioning of District 113.
- Participate and obtain certification in nonviolent crisis intervention strategies

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma
- State Paraprofessional Approval (sixty [60] or more college hours or pass Paraprofessional Test)
- Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.
- Able to work with high-risk special needs students
- Dependability in attendance and punctuality
- Able to operate tactfully under stress
- Flexibility to change routines

The ability to work in an office environment, sitting, standing, light lifting, filing, operating office machines, and computers, communicating with staff and others. Occasional lifting, otherwise non-demanding office activities.
The noise level in the work environment ranges from quiet/moderate to loud. The employee is frequently required to interact with the other staff. The employee is directly responsible for the safety and well-being of students.
