The Senior Electrical Test Technician will travel to project sites in our Northern California service area.
Position Title: Senior Electrical Test Technician
Job Summary:
Associated Power Solutions, LLC is currently seeking a Senior Electrical Test Technician with a minimum of 5 years of power distribution systems testing, repair and engineering experience. The primary function of the Senior Electrical Test Technician is to provide support as directed by the General Manager who has overall responsibility for providing exemplary customer services in a timely, cost effective and professional manner. Position requires limited supervision; therefore, individual must be a self-starter with a strong understanding of electrical distribution and control, coupled with strong interpersonal skills necessary to execute all aspects of a project from estimating through performing on-site execution to final invoicing. This individual will work with the General Manager to grow our staff of Field Technicians to include hiring, training, and evaluating. Additional duties and responsibilities of the Senior Electrical Test Technician is outlined below to include but not limited to:
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Perform installation, commissioning, testing, and maintenance of protective relaying equipment and apparatus including DC systems.
· Perform function testing of substation control circuits on relay panels, transformers, & circuit breakers.
· Develop relay macros and testing routines with confirmation of proper protection and control design.
· Develop written standard commissioning, testing, and maintenance procedures for protective relaying.
· Examine relay settings and logic equations for confirmation of system operation in accordance with design.
· Lead safety briefings on job site.
· Identify, hire, and coordinate available resources including personnel, test equipment, and subcontracts.
· Develop, track, and maintain project schedules and budgets.
· Direct the procurement of any needed supplies or special test equipment as required and dictated by project needs.
· Generate reports and submittals detailing field test findings and project documentation.
· Prepare written job proposals for clients which include estimates for man-hours and expenses as well as the development of the Scope of Work and final pricing.
· Ensure all job-related expenses are accurately accounted for and submitted in a timely manner to accounting.
Qualifications:
· Preferred 5+ years of hands-on experience installing, maintaining, and testing protective relays in transmission, generation, or distribution level substations.
· Ability to develop written test procedures for transmission, generation, and distribution substation protection.
· Ability to develop relay test plans necessary to test the relays per APS and customer specifications.
· Lead investigations of electrical related issues, including root cause analysis as needed.
· Ability to calibrate & perform functional tests on both electromechanical and micro-processor based protective relays for substations.
· Capable of trouble shooting transmission, generation, and distribution controls circuits.
· Knowledge of relay test software is required. Doble Protection Suite preferred.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Experience installing, maintaining, or testing circuit breakers, transformers, switchgear, or similar equipment is desired.
· Ability to operate test equipment needed for the project.
· Ability to function as an on-site lead for the project, assign tasks, prioritize activities and interface with customers.
· Ability to read and fully understand protection, control, and wiring diagrams and catch mistakes in the drawings and design when comparing with accepted engineering and customer standards.
· Ability to determine and interpret customer’s requirements and provide final deliverables including as built prints and all test results meeting specified requirements.
· Ability to understand manufactures’ literature to facilitate testing.
· Ability to review relay settings and determine that the relay logic matches the intended system design.
Additional Requirements:
· Able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
· Complete a satisfactory criminal background check.
· Able to work overtime and travel out of town for periods of time.
· Able to climb ladders, stand for extended periods, able to lift 70 lbs.
· Must have a valid driver's license and currently have and be able to maintain a good driving record.
· Extensive experience following NETA acceptance and maintenance procedures.
Compensation:
Competitive hourly rate to include overtime and double time as required by California Department of Labor offered based on experience. Comprehensive benefits package offered to include medical, dental, vision, 401k and vacation.
