SCHOOL-BASED MENTAL HEALTH CLINICIAN
ALAMEDA MENTAL HEALTH PROGRAM (ACMH)
Role:
Under the supervision of the Mental Health Programs Director, the School-Based Clinician has the primary responsibility for providing direct mental health services to children and youth at assigned school sites. School-based Clinicians will also provide services in the community and may have a small percentage of their caseload community-based. Services include providing individual, group, and family therapy (as needed) to elementary and middle school level children; collaboration with educational staff; performing intake evaluations, which includes forming diagnostic formulations; providing case management, treatment planning, and therapeutic interventions for children and youth as a member of the multi-disciplinary treatment team. School-based clinicians will also develop and provide specific site-based training for caregivers and/or school staff. Topics range from supporting school sites to be more trauma-informed to support staff and caregivers to better evaluate high-risk behaviors and develop safety plans. Starting pay is commensurate with relevant experience above the minimum requirements.
Covid-19 vaccination including booster is required.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Provides culturally/linguistically sensitive individual, group, family, and collateral outpatient psychotherapy to EPSDT/Medi-Cal eligible clients referred for treatment.

Support school staff and families to better understand mental health needs and provision by providing 1-3 annual pieces of training

Provides individual, group, and/or collateral Mental Health Rehabilitation Services as needed. Co-facilitates groups with team members if needed and as appropriate.

Develops, cultivates, and maintains positive relationships with the principal, school staff, and team clinicians.

Maintains caseload as relevant to FTE (1.0 FTE= 18-20 case minimum: case minimum) and co-facilitates at least one group each fiscal year, starting in October.

Provides services to at least 25 unduplicated kids in a school year (1.0 FTE = 25 unduplicated;).

Informs Principal when making a CPS report and may support teachers in doing so, if requested.

Knowledge of the standards set by the county, state, Board of Psychology/ Board of Behavioral Sciences, Medi-Cal, EPSDT and internal ABW clinical quality standards.

Attend appropriate meetings, which include weekly group supervision, staff meetings, training and supervision

Monitor eligibility and obtain authorizations where appropriate.

Consults with parents regarding educational and social issues of their children. Helps parents understand their child's abilities, needs and opportunities, especially in relation to mental health.

Meet minimum productivity of 40% of service providers time

Use time-management skills and supervisory support to meet productivity, documentation, and timeliness requirements.

Follow regulatory guidelines, mandated reporting, and program/agency protocols in performing duties

Abide by all provisions of the ABW personnel manual

Perform any other duties as directed
Qualifications:

MSW, MA, PhD or PsyD from accredited school of social work or psychology.
- Must be licensed or registered with BBS or BOP.

Excellent clinical and writing skills

Bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus

Direct experience working with diverse racial and ethnic populations in community and/or school settings

Understanding of basic theoretical and developmental principles of child and youth development

Ability to understand psychological assessment reports; psychological assessment experience a plus for psychologist applicants

Must have a car and good driving record

Understand and desire to work with a strength-based mental health approach

Knowledge, understanding, and willingness to work with interdisciplinary approaches and partnerships

Understanding DSM, and treatment plans

Ability to work independently and to work as a member of a team

Excellent organizational, computer and communication skills

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (subject to change, with supervisor approval, to meet the business needs).
Travel
Local travel to various worksites and local schools is required.
Work Authorization/Security Clearance
Employees must pass a background check and receive TB and health clearances prior to employment. Driving records are periodically reviewed per company policy.
