Under the general supervision of the Central Sterilization Manager, Responsible for decontamination, disinfection, inspection, assembly and sterilization of reusable medical supplies, instruments and equipment dispensed by the department.

Responsibilities:
Receiving
-
Ensure safe handling of items through decontamination process according to policy and procedure

Ensure vendor compliance for delivery and packaging of equipment/instrumentation
- Processing all equipment/instrumentation from all campuses, and offsite ancillary departments
Handling
-
Ensure compliance with all regulatory protocols for decontamination of instrumentation

Ensure all safety measures taken with regard to policy and procedure

Disassemble items for cleaning and sterilizing; reassembling cleaned and sterilized items

Complete tray assembly inclusive of inventory, inspection, assembly and containment

Complete sterilization process according to policy and procedure
Distribution
-
Transport completed instrumentation to defined storage locations within the operating room

Complete handoff to ancillary departments
- Ensure vendor compliance for instrument handling, pick up and inventory control
Basic UPH Performance Criteria

Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.

Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements
Identify items that are minimally required to perform the essential functions of this position.
Preferred or Specialized
Not required to perform the essential functions of the position.
High school graduate or equivalent
1 year prior experience in Central Services/Central Supply
License(s)/Certification(s):
Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification to be obtained within 1 year of start date
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English.
Multicultural sensitivity
Microsoft office-basic computer skill.
Customer/patient focused.
Critical thinking skills using independent judgement in making decisions.
Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
Work requires travel to other UPH facilities
