Western Native Voice (WNV) is a non-profit organization under Section 501(c)(4) of the Internal Revenue Code, formed in July 2022. We are committed to inspiring Native leadership so our communities flourish. We provide the information and tools necessary to empower citizens to have a voice and an impact on the decisions affecting their lives. We strive to protect the rights of Native American tribes and individuals through leadership development, education, advocacy, and civic engagement to promote social, racial, gender, economic, and environmental justice to preserve our land, culture, and way of life for future generations. Staff Role Within the Organization
The Field Manager will be under the supervision of the Outreach and Field Director and will assist in carrying out field operations. This work will directly focus on improving our members’ ability to participate in the organization and effect change for Native populations across seven Montana reservations and in urban areas of Montana. The Field Manager position(s) will coordinate the WNV member volunteers and field staff in Montana by developing collective, collaborative, coherent strategies to achieve the organization’s goals. Organizers will implement all their skills and knowledge to assist the Field and Outreach Director in strategizing, problem-solving, and allocating resources to accomplish the Board of Directors' goals. This position will be full-time and non-exempt until mid-November.
While each employee at Western Native Voice has their own individual work assignments and duties, the entire staff works together as a team to accomplish the goals set in the collaborative strategic plan. Field Managers are critical to the success of Western Native Voice because they represent the organization’s interests in matters involving Federal, State, and Local governments for WNV.
Job Summary
The development of Native Americans' leadership potential is critical to our success. Much of our staff work focuses on improving our members' ability to participate in the organization and effect change in their community. The Board of Directors directs the organization. The staff receives direction from the Executive Director, who assigns the tasks necessary to carry out the Board’s directions.
Responsibilities:
Relationship Building and Community Engagement:
- Establish and maintain relationships with WNV allies involved in civic engagement, voter engagement, redistricting, and census outreach.
- Network and build relationships with community leaders.
- Recruit and set up local volunteers for community meetings, house meetings, and other activities.
- Educate and engage Native voters for the 2024 election.
- Schedule and attend outreach events, including setting up and working tables at events such as powwows, tribal college events, and other community engagements.
- Organize and conduct outreach events in neighborhoods.
- Research local and county-level races to inform direct voter contact strategies.
- Collect data.
- Maintain frequent communication with the Billings-based team.
- Prepare progress reports as needed.
- Assist with other duties as assigned.
Team Leadership and Project Management:
- Supervise, train, and support field staff to ensure optimal performance and professional development.
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee field projects from initiation to completion, ensuring projects are completed on time, within scope, and within budget.
- Monitor field activities to ensure compliance with high-quality standards and company policies and procedures.
- Implement and enforce safety protocols to maintain a safe working environment for all field personnel.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, addressing their needs and concerns promptly and professionally.
- Allocate resources effectively, including manpower, equipment, and materials, to maximize productivity.
- Prepare and present regular reports to senior management on field operations, project progress, and any issues or risks.
- Identify and resolve operational issues and challenges promptly and efficiently.
- Ensure all field activities comply with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
- Assist in developing and managing the field operations budget.
Qualifications:
- Relationship Building: Proven experience in establishing and maintaining relationships with community members, Tribal Nations, and civic engagement allies.
- Organizing Skills: Demonstrated ability to organize and manage community meetings, outreach events, and volunteer activities.
- Community Familiarity: Deep understanding of the local community and Tribal Nations, enhancing the effectiveness of outreach and engagement efforts.
- Communication Skills: Strong oral communication skills, including public speaking, to effectively engage and educate diverse audiences.
- Independent and Team Work: Capable of working productively both independently as a self-starter and collaboratively within a team setting.
- Technical Proficiency: Basic skills in using computers, social media, and smartphone technologies, with a willingness to learn new tools.
- Leadership and Team Management: Strong leadership abilities with a track record of supervising, training, and supporting field staff to ensure optimal performance and professional development.
- Organizational and Project Management: Excellent organizational skills with the ability to plan, coordinate, and oversee projects from initiation to completion.
- Effective Communication: Proficient in effective communication and interpersonal skills to interact with clients, team members, and stakeholders.
- Field Management Tools: Proficient in using field management software and tools to enhance productivity and efficiency.
- Analytical and Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to promptly identify and resolve operational challenges.
- Multi-Tasking: Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining high quality and compliance standards.

- A heartfelt commitment to improving Native American communities, both rural and urban, in Montana.
- Available for travel overnight, statewide up to 7 nights at one time, and work on evenings and weekends.
- Access to reliable transportation.

- Maintain a professional and positive public appearance, including on social media.
- Must be able to pass a background check.
- Should have a valid driver’s license.
- Must have a clean driving record for insurance purposes.
- Ability to lift/carry/push/pull 20 to 50+ lbs.
