Center for Family Life in Sunset Park, a nationally recognized social service agency in Sunset Park Brooklyn, is seeking a full-time year-round College Access Counselor to work with high school students and their families at Sunset Park High School.
Position Description

Oversee the daily functioning of the SPHS college office

Supervise support staff in the college office as required

Provide 1:1 and small group college counseling sessions to 12th grade students to assist with college research, application preparation, and financial aid applications

Collaborate with CFL and SPHS Advisory Point People to purposely plan the 4-year scope and sequence of college and career related advisory sessions for 9 – 12 grade students

Schedule, coordinate, and chaperone college campus visits or field trips related to the college admission process for students in all 4 grades

Work with a team of CFL and SPHS staff to develop and implement workshops and events focused on college access for students and their families including a school day college fair and evening family workshops

Build effective relationships with college admissions, financial aid, and other offices to advocate for students and assist them in reaching their higher education goals

Track, evaluate, and report on student college application completion rates and admissions outcomes for on-going program improvement and growth

Stay current on trends and changes in college access and success, FAFSA, and other postsecondary issues

Recruit and enroll eligible students in college success programs partnering with CFL and/or SPHS such as Bottom Line, Posse, and summer bridge type programs

Some evening and weekend hours are required throughout the year
QUALIFICATIONS

Bilingual Spanish/English or Chinese/English required

Degree: Masters in social work, school counseling, or related field preferred

Experience with and passion for working with high school aged youth with diverse strengths, interests, and backgrounds

Highly organized and able to manage time efficiently

Ability to be a genuine and positive member of a diverse staff team

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Interest and commitment to learning and working within a social group work model

Has interest in managing and creating positive experiences for groups

WORKING CONDITIONS

Flexible working in an office setting and classroom spaces

May be exposed to all weather conditions and might be required to work in various temperatures to facilitate activities in various locations inside and outside of the school building

May also attend various meetings with different departments to discuss proposals and progress
This is a Full-time position at 35 hours of work per week on a variable schedule. Comprehensive benefits package including four weeks paid vacation, fourteen paid holidays, medical, dental and life insurance, and retirement benefits.
Salary range is $50,000 to $65,000, commensurate with experience and education.
