Thomas Solutions Incorporated is seeking for a Managing Editor to provide high-quality publications, other content and editorial support, and marketing strategies to the National Institute of Justice’s (NIJ) Journal . The position is in Alexandria, Virginia at contractor site.
Position: Managing Editor of NIJ Journal
Job Summary
The managing editor of the NIJ Journal will be responsible for content development and overseeing production of the NIJ Journal. Oversee production activities, including layout and printing activities, submitting laser proof(s) to NIJ for approval, submitting printer specs, preparing, and delivering the printer package, and preparing and delivering files for posting to the NIJ website.
Requirements: To be successful in this role you must meet the following:
Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience Level:
- Five (5) years of direct relevant work experience writing and editing publications and various documents.
- Excellent writing skills required and knowledge of style guidelines.
Task:
- Coordinating with NIJ executive staff and subject matter experts.
- Contacting authors and providing guidance about the story’s angle, tone, and format.
- Writing articles and other components for the NIJ Journal, which may include—
- Director’s message (approx. 400 words)
- Two-page bulletin spread (approx. 1,200 words)
- Summaries for NIJ.ojp.gov (approx. 80 words per article)
- Coordinate the review of drafts with NIJ staff and other individuals.
- Participate in planning discussions, prepare schedules, recommend content, and provide support for executive staff meetings pertaining to the NIJ Journal.
- Coordinate review among authors, DOJ, and external reviewers, and NIJ executive staff.
- Coordinate copyedit of the manuscript and proofreading.
- Lead NIJ Journal board meetings and act as secretariat of the board.
