Truck Driver
Accountability
The Truck Driver is primarily responsible for the operation of the company trucks that are used for pickups and deliveries of MSM/Customer Owned Materials or hardware.
* 42 Foot Triaxle Truck and Class B License.
* Interstate Travel primarily ME to CT. some Overnights reguired.
Organizational Relationship
The Truck Driver reports directly to the Supply Chain Manager. The incumbent may have contact with several internal departments including, but not limited to: Manufacturing Manager, Program Manager, Logistics Coordinator, Shipper/Receiver, Manufacturing Supervisors, Engineering and Quality Control personnel.
Principal Accountabilities
- Loads and unloads materials, parts, or products onto or from trucks manually or using mechanized loading and unloading equipment.
- Delivers and picks up parts or stock from designated customers or sub-contractors using company supplied trucks.
- Maintains a good driving and safety record, and must obey traffic laws at all times. Must be able to pass the Medical DOT Physical Exam.
- Inspects all available trucks daily Fills out daily inspection report on each vehicle
- Vehicles not passing inspection are taken out of service
- Vehicles requiring service – maintenance, inspection or registration - are referred to the Supply Chain Manager, who will make arrangements to have the work performed.
- Ensures that the vehicles are kept clean at all times.
- Ensures that the vehicles have the necessary safety and operational equipment e.g. fire extinguisher, tarps and side boards, hold down straps & chains.
- Drivers, primary or backup, must be available, with reasonable notice, to work weekends as needed.
- While driving, the driver must follow all DOT guidelines and applicable state laws in the area he/she is operating in.
- The driver is responsible for insuring that the load is properly secured and does not exceed the weight limit of the vehicle.
- The driver has the authority to not accept any load that he/she feels is not safe and to report any unsafe conditions or activities to the Supply Chain Manager.
- The driver may, with notification to the Supply Chain Manager, curtail a run due to weather, road conditions or illness.
- The driver is responsible for maintaining all DOT records and logs. These must be done at the completion of each run.
- The driver is responsible for submitting an expense account, with all required receipts, to Finance at the end of each trip.
- Maintains a professional and personable relationship with customers, the general public and fellow employees, being responsive to their needs as well as those of the company.
- When not driving, the driver may be assigned to work in other areas besides Finishing, may transport material & parts between plants, maintaining the inventory list of items/parts in the storage trailers, or any other duties as requested by their immediate supervisor.
Qualification Requirements
- Must have Class B CDL license.
- Must have DOT Medical Card.
