Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented CMA - Surgery Scheduler to join our healthcare team. The Certified Medical Assistant under the direction of a physician, assists in the delivery of health care for patients. This position performs a wide variety of patient care activities including, but not limited to, maintenance of clinical record and documentation, administering medications, giving injections, and taking vital signs. They also will be responsible for coordinating and scheduling surgical procedures for patients, ensuring efficient and timely services. This position will be required to work from Garland and Rockwall clinics on a weekly basis.
Responsibilities:
Certified Medical Assistant:
- Maintains patient flow
- Interviews patient, measures vital signs and records the information
- Performs tests as ordered by the physician
- Prepares/assists physician with patient exam and/or procedures
- Prepares patient rooms
- Prepares specimens for laboratory
- Administers injections and catheters using sterile technique
- Cleans and restocks patient rooms, lab area and storeroom
- Sterilizes instruments
- Performs veni-puncture
- Documents patient’s chart
- Performs triage duties
- Assists primary nurse with labs, etc.
- Opens clinic and lab in the am
- Closes clinic and labs in the pm (clean and dispose of biohazard waste)
- Front office and back office experience is a plus
- Performs other tasks and duties as may be added from time to time
Surgery Scheduler:
- Receive surgery scheduling requests from physician on a daily basis and coordinate with physician to prioritize surgeries once received.
- Coordinate with facilities during physician’s block time to place patients on surgery schedule.
- Maintain physician’s surgical calendar.
- Work with physician to learn surgery scheduling preferences.
- Put together all necessary paperwork to schedule surgery with each facility including all appropriate clinical and insurance coding information.
- Fax necessary paperwork to surgery facilities and respond to facility’s emails and requests in a timely manner.
- Coordinate with third party surgical assist companies to find surgical assistant coverage for procedure if required.
- Schedule patient’s post-operative appointments as designated by the physician.
- Communicate general surgery and scheduling information to patients, including all guidelines for surgery both verbally to the patient and through the patient portal.
- Answer all phone calls and messages from patients regarding surgery questions.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with deadlines that must be met for scheduling.
- Assisting physician’s team with other administrative tasks such as patient phone calls and portal messages during downtime.
- Travel between Garland and Rockwall clinic locations.
Qualifications:
Must be CMA from one listed:
- Nat Cert Med Asst (NCMA)
- from NCCT Cert Med Asst (CMA)
- from AAMA or ARMA Cert Cln Med Asst (CCMA)
- from NHA Reg Med Asst (RMA)
- from AMT, AAMP or AAH Nat Reg Cert Med Asst (NRCMA)
- from NAHP Cln Med Asst Cert (CMAC) from AMCA
- Surgery scheduling experience required(1-2 years minimum)
- Urology experienced preferred, but not required
- Bi-lingual is preferred, but not required
