Job Summary:
The Mechanical Engineering Manager is responsible for the management of Mechanical Engineering Projects and management of the Mechanical Engineering Design Team including Mechanical Engineers and Project Engineers. In addition, the Mechanical Engineering Manager is responsible to oversee the design of HVAC, plumbing and process piping systems for design build construction projects and ensure design is in conformance with project requirements, code requirements, company standards and policies. This includes producing complete design documents for permit submittal. The Mechanical Engineering Manager is licensed and registered with the California Board for Professional Engineering meaning he / she will be responsible for determining design parameters, system selection, code reference, industry standards and construction implementation. The Mechanical Engineering Manager will be required to act as the Mechanical Engineer of Record for PMI on design build projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Oversees the design of HVAC, plumbing and process piping projects designed by the Mechanical Engineering team ensures the design is in conformance with project requirements, code requirements, company standards and policies
2. Responsible for production of construction / permit documents for design build projects. This work may be self-performed or delegated to the mechanical engineering design team and sub-consultants. For work that is self-performed the following skills are required:
a. HVAC and plumbing system load calculations and system selection / sizing
b. HVAC and plumbing equipment selection and placement
c. Field survey and as built existing HVAC and Plumbing systems for renovation projects
d. Duct and piping sizing and routing
e. Development of construction details and schematic diagrams
f. HVAC and plumbing controls design including sequence of operations, points list and P&ID’s
g. LEED project documentation for applicable HVAC & Plumbing related credits
h. Produces full sets of permit documents with on screen design using AutoCAD or Revit based software
i. Title 24 energy code compliance calculations and documentation
j. Energy modeling to determine system life cost and payback periods for alternative systems
3. Manages Mechanical Engineers and Project Engineering staff
4. Manages Mechanical Engineering projects including project management in Vista
5. Gives direction to Accounts Receivable for billing of Mechanical Engineering Projects
6. Manages engineering sub consultants (architect, electrical engineer, structural engineer, etc.) on prime projects
7. Develops HVAC and plumbing system design solutions based on engineering principles
8. Conducts presentation and coordination of system design with client, owner, general contractor, PMI office staff, field crew and other team members
9. Takes the lead in resolving engineering related operational problems related to projects and minimize delays or unexpected cost increases
10. Takes the lead in pre-sales technical concept and budgeting activities
11. Takes the lead interpreting client requirements, identifying and addressing design parameters and engineering problems and ensure solutions are implemented accurately
12. Responsible for engineering project budget and cost control
13. Prepares presentation materials for and attendance of project interviews
14. Maintains Professional Engineering (PE) License
15. Acts as Mechanical Engineer of record / Design Professional of Record for PMI design build projects
16. Other duties as assigned

Essential Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from ABET Accredited University
2. Licensed Mechanical Engineer / Professional Mechanical Engineer in the State of California.
3. Critical thinking with exceptional problem solving skills, able to work independently or in team environment.
4. Efficiently organize and plan work tasks to meet company goals.
5. Proactive, resourceful & highly motivated with good communication skills and ability to work in high output environment.
6. Travel as required to support projects; valid driver’s license and clean driving record; ability to travel the Bay Area
7. Load calculation & energy modeling software- HAP or equal
8. Title 24 documentation
9. AutoCAD
Preferred Job Qualifications:
1. LEED Accredited Professional (AP) / Green Associate (GA)
2. Familiar with LEAN construction methods
3. ASHRAE Involvement and current member
4. Navisworks and/or Revit experience
5. Vista experience
6. Procore Experience
7. 10+ years of design build Mechanical Engineering experience in the HVAC, plumbing and process piping industry.
ADA Specifications:
Position requires sitting for prolonged periods and occasional standing and walking. Manual dexterity required for computer work. There is occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs. Office work environment (with stairs) as well as construction site environment. Some exposure to loud noise on construction sites at times. Ability to operate a vehicle. Pay: $158,000.00 - $190,000.00 per year
