Position Summary:
At Wannamaker Crimmigration, LLC, we seek an enthusiastic and meticulous Crimmigration Legal Assistant to join our legal team. The ideal candidate will be a part of a team dedicated to providing top-notch support to attorneys specializing in immigration and criminal law, with a specific focus on cases where these two areas intersect (known as "crimmigration"). We're looking for someone with remarkable organizational skills, an eye for detail, and a genuine interest in helping clients navigate the complexities of the legal system.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Assist attorneys in preparing and filing various legal documents, including immigration forms, petitions, motions, and briefs.
- Conduct legal research on crimmigration law topics, including statutes, regulations, and case law precedent.
- Communicate with clients to gather necessary information, provide updates on case progress, and answer inquiries.
- Assist in the preparation of clients for hearings, interviews, and court appearances.
- Manage case files, ensuring all documents and correspondence are accurately recorded and maintained.
- Coordinate appointments, meetings, and court dates for attorneys and clients.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes in immigration and criminal law relevant to crimmigration cases.
- Collaborate with attorneys and other legal staff to strategize case approaches and develop effective legal arguments.
- Provide administrative support, including drafting correspondence, managing calendars, and handling phone calls.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Skills/Abilities:
- Prior experience working as a legal assistant or paralegal, with exposure to immigration and/or criminal law matters.
- Fluent in Spanish (preferred), ready to connect with and advocate for our diverse clientele.
- Familiarity with legal research tools and databases, such as LexisNexis or Westlaw.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with clients, attorneys, and court personnel.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and legal case management software.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Sensitivity to cultural and language diversity
- Strong skill level in MS Office Suite/Google Suite, including Word, Excel, Google Docs, Google Sheets, etc.
Other Requirements:
- The ideal candidate must be able to complete all essential duties and physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
Education/Experience:
- A High School diploma/certification as a paralegal or legal assistant is preferred.
- Experience specifically in crimmigration law or related fields.
- Knowledge of immigration procedures and forms, including those used by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and Immigration Courts.
