Job Title: Wildlife Conservation Biologist II
This is a Time Limited (TL) position with an estimated duration of approximately 1 year. Internal candidates will be considered for career mobility.

As a Conservation Biologist, you will administer the wildlife conservation program in the Southeast Region, collecting field data on various native bird and mammal species and working towards conserving their populations and habitat.
Principle Duties:
The conservation biologist will:

Administer the wildlife conservation program for the Southeast Region of Utah

Participate in conservation outreach with native species
-
Prepare grants, design projects, develop research protocols, conduct surveys, analyze data

Budget oversight
The Ideal Candidate (will have):-
A master's degree or BS with 4 years of related experience
-
knowledge of native birds and mammals in Utah
-
various field experience working with a wide array of wildlife and data collection methods
*** Preference will be given to candidates with a bachelor’s degree in a natural resources field. Additional preference will be given to candidates with a master's degree in a wildlife-related natural resources field or other applicable field that is beneficial for the position. Preference for years of demonstrated successful full-time work experience will vary based on the specific position.

Additional knowledge, skills, and abilities required upon entry into position and trainable after entry into position:
REQUIRED:

MS degree or BS plus 4 years experience, or experience equivalent

Knowledge of wildlife management and conservation principles and techniques

Knowledge of research and monitoring principles and techniques including sampling and statistical analysis

Skills with a wide variety of wildlife field methods including capture and handling of birds and mammals

Knowledge of computer software including GIS

Ability to collect, compile, analyze and summarize data in written and oral report

Good communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to work independently

Field skills necessary to work or camp in adverse or remote locations
PREFERRED:-
Knowledge of the flora and fauna of Utah with good field identification skills

Knowledge of state and federal environmental regulations

Employee supervision skills

Ability to work effectively on teams and interagency groups

Working conditions and physical requirements:

Risks that necessitate special safety measures and/or equipment, such as working near operational machinery, handling contagious diseases, or dealing with hazardous chemicals.

Work requires physical exertion. May require the ability to stand; walk over rough surfaces; bend, crouch, stoop, stretch, reach, and lift moderately heavy items (up to 50 lbs.) in a recurring manner and/or for long periods of time.

Must be able to operate four-wheel drive vehicles, all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), small watercraft, snowmobiles, and tow camp and utility trailers.
