Porter/Custodial Worker*

Statement of General Purpose*
The Porter/Custodial Worker is responsible for cleaning and maintaining the buildings and grounds of the Community Center.

Examples of Essential Functions and Responsibilities*
- Cleans, paints, and maintains buildings and grounds throughout the Community Center property.
- Cleans bathrooms, floors, windows, sidewalks, walls, etc.
- Removes ice and snow from Center sidewalks and walkways.
- Performs preventive maintenance and minor repairs to Center buildings and equipment.
- Collects, stores, and removes trash, garbage, and refuse; replaces light bulbs; cleans or replaces HVAC and other filters; bleeds down feed-water valves; etc.
- Conducts regular inspections of buildings and grounds, and reports any unsafe or unsanitary conditions to Center management.
- Paints, varnishes, finishes, waterproofs, and performs similar functions for Center property.
- Performs related work as required.

Core Competencies*
- Familiarity with the maintenance of electrical, plumbing, heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems.
- Ability to perform cleaning, painting, waxing, disinfecting, and other custodial tasks.
- Ability to use hand and power tools and cleaning equipment.
- Ability to comply with instructions for the use of cleaning materials and chemicals.

Minimum Qualifications*
- High school diploma or G.E.D., and
- Two (2) years experience in building maintenance and custodial work, or
- Any equivalent combination of acceptable training, education, and experience.

Other Requirements*
- This position includes the normal physical demands associated with building maintenance and repair, including lifting, bending, and carrying large, heavy, and unwieldy objects; hazardous materials requiring special use and storage requirements; and travel to other facilities throughout the Philadelphia area.
- This position is subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
