Duties and Responsibilities
Teach special education courses and supervise teacher candidates on all islands via a variety of delivery modes (in-person, distance); Participate in on-going curriculum and program development activities; provide service to the department and college; contribute to the University of Hawaii’s mission as being a Hawaiian place of learning. Other duties as assigned.
Instructor Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in special education or in a closely related field from an accredited four-year college or university;

Expertise in instructional and assistive technology for students with disabilities;

Broad knowledge of K-12 special education;

At least two years of K-12 teaching experience as a licensed special educator;
Assistant Professor Minimum Qualifications
[In addition to the Instructor Minimum Qualification above]

Doctorate in Special Education or closely related field from an accredited institution; will consider ABD if completed by August 2024;

Evidence of scholarly research activity focused on mathematics and/or instructional and assistive technology;

Any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience that provides the required education, knowledge, skills, and abilities as indicated.
Desirable Qualifications

Experience providing professional development or university coursework for special educators;

Broad knowledge of evidence-based practices in special education;
-
Broad knowledge of Universal Design for Learning and technologies for learning;

Knowledge of UHM special education teacher training programs;
-
Experience teaching special education in Hawaii;
-
Experience with nontraditional university student populations from racially/ethnically and culturally diverse backgrounds.
