Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)
Summary
Perform administrative and certain clinical duties under the direction of physician or physician assistant. Administrative duties may include scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, answering phone calls. Clinical duties may include taking/recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination, and administering medications as directed by physician.
Clerical Duties
The primary clerical and administrative duties include:
1. Assisting patients with completing required practice insurance forms
2. Answering phones
3. Scheduling appointments and procedures
4. Greeting patients
5. Sorting/Scanning procedure reports
6.Other administrative tasks
Clinical Duties
All tasks listed below must be done under the supervision of a physician:
1. Prepare patients for examination
2. Take medical histories
3. Assist the physician during examinations
4. Instruct patients about medication and special diets
5. Obtain prior authorizations for tests/procedures if needed
6. Handle prescription refills
7. Restock and clean exam rooms
Qualifications/Requirements
1. High school diploma, required
2. Medical Assistant Certification preferred, but not required
3. 2 or more years of experience in a clinical practice setting
4. ICD 10 knowledge and training
5. Able to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
6. Possess strong organizational skills
6. Able to follow directions well
7. Possess excellent communication abilities in both oral and written skills
8. Some experience in Gastroenterology preferred, but not required.
