Nassau County Department of Public Works is seeking applicants for the position of Public Works Project Manager IV.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Makes recommendations regarding the constructability and contract compliance of vendors’ work involving the construction of roads, buildings, bridges, or other infrastructures; performs related duties as required.
TYPICAL DUTIES
1. Makes recommendations regarding the constructability of contract work involving the construction of roads, buildings, bridges, or other infrastructures.
2. Makes recommendations regarding the contract compliance of vendors’ work.
3. Interprets and makes recommendations pertaining to plans and specifications.
4. Ensures the quality-control of materials used during construction; implements corrections to work deficiencies as they occur.
5. Certifies vendors’ observance of construction-related laws, rules and regulations, and legally mandated safe work practices.
6. Prepares budget, allocates resources and reviews and approves expenditures.
7. Monitors project schedules to ensure contract completion; approves modifications to schedules.
8. Coordinates with Engineers how to implement corrective measures.
9. Represents the Department as liaison with contract agencies, equipment manufacturers, utility companies, County Departments, officials, municipalities, and the public.
10. Composes material that requires planning, organizing and experience; analyzes findings, draws conclusions, and makes recommendations; reviews and approves all written material to ensure accurate completion and high-quality of all documentation and communication.
11. Provides testimony in court; provides information to county attorneys, as required.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
1. Thorough knowledge of the principles of project management, including contracts, schedules, contract administration, and applicable construction procedures and codes.
2. Ability to obtain vendors’ compliance with construction specifications.
3. Thorough knowledge of the methods and materials used in the construction of roads, buildings, bridges, or other infrastructures.
4. Thorough knowledge of the methods and procedures applied in inspecting and testing materials used in the construction of roads, buildings, bridges, or other infrastructures.
5. Thorough knowledge of construction-related safety practices.6. Ability to read and interpret the assigned types of engineering designs, plans, maps and specifications.
7. Thorough knowledge of the mathematical methods of computing contract quantities and costs.
8. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, departmental administrators, vendor personnel, municipal administrators and the public.
9. Ability to express oneself effectively, both orally and in writing.
10. Ability to read, analyze, and prepare written material and reports.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
Graduation from high school
and
Ten years of satisfactory experience related to inspecting and/or monitoring the contract compliance of vendors’ work involving the construction of roads, buildings, bridges, or other infrastructures.
