SUMMARY: Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation (Yocha Dehe or Tribe) is a federally recognized tribal government. The Tribe’s mission is to provide for the health and welfare of its people, to govern its own lands and affairs with sovereign independence and in a manner consistent with its cultural values, and to enhance and diversify its economy for the overall good of the nation. Yocha Dehe’s governing body, its elected Tribal Council, is charged with implementing this mission. As a federally recognized tribe, Yocha Dehe exercises a government-to-government relationship with the United States, as well as with the State of California and local governments, and the Tribe actively engages with outside agencies and officials, local stakeholders, and members of the public.
POSITION SUMMARY: The YAAP Coordinator reports to the Director – Tribal Services Administrator and is responsible for providing young adult citizens with college and career options, development, and support of Individual Success Plans, life skills education and resources, support, data collection and reports. This position interacts with tribal citizens, department directors, external consultants, organizations, and government agencies. This position collaboratively develops and delivers college and career development, planning, program development, reports, and special projects. The YAAP Coordinator is expected to handle highly sensitive and confidential information.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Coordinates with the College and Career Counselor regarding college majors, admission requirements, entrance exams, test preparation, financial aid, trade and technical schools, adult education, vocational, individualized and apprenticeship programs.
· Develops internal work opportunities for young adults and works with other individuals and organizations to promote the academic, career, and personal development of young adult citizens.
· Helps young adults evaluate their abilities, interests, talents, and personalities to develop realistic academic and career goals. Identifies resources, builds programs, and helps young adults set and achieve goals.
· Works with young adults who have academic development problems or other special needs.
· Assists in the development of Individual Success Plans.
· Provides individual, small group and workshop guidance services to young adults.
· Participates in regular meetings and reports to the YAAP Committee.
· Helps young adults develop job search skills, such as resume writing and interviewing techniques.
· Collaborates with college career planning and placement counselors to assist alumni or young adults with career development and job-hunting techniques.
· Interacts with young adults individually or in small groups.
· Consults and collaborates with parents, teachers, and school administrators to develop and implement strategies to help young adults succeed.
· Provides career counseling outside the school setting with a chief focus of helping young adults with career decisions.
· Compiles and studies occupational, educational, and economic information to aid counselees in making and carrying out vocational and educational objectives.
· Refers young adults to placement services.
· Performs other duties as assigned.

Experience and/or Education
High school diploma or equivalent. BS preferred or equivalent two-year college or technical school; or two-year related experience and/or training; equivalent combination of education and experience.
Communication and Comprehension Skills
Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy and confidentiality concerning Tribal matters by using excellent interpersonal skills, tact, diplomacy, and an understanding of the organizational culture, climate, and/or politics. Must have excellent communication skills in both verbal and in written form. Ability to communicate learning goals and high standards and expectations to students and their families. Appropriately adjusts communication style in order to be effective with different audiences.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
Computer Skills
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications with the ability to use email, spreadsheets, and presentation software. Advanced principles and procedures of record keeping and filing to include both hard and electronic copies. Must be able to coach students in completing college applications, online classes and other tasks requiring intermediate computer skills.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to manage multiple projects and work assignments.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Individuals must be able to successfully pass the Tribal Gaming Agency (TGA) Background Check. Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a driving record that is satisfactory to the Tribe’s insurance carrier.

- Direct experience working with Native American youth and adults, or a background or study in the philosophy regarding the education of Native American youth and adults; experience teaching students with learning disabilities; knowledge of best practices in teaching Native American students, preferred.
