The BBC is looking for a highly creative news journalist with exceptional video editing skills to join our expanding digital video team in North America.
We’re after a video specialist who understands digital audiences and gets a thrill out of producing smart and engaging short videos (1-3 minute duration) around breaking news and must-watch moments.
We want someone who can hunt down the most striking visuals and compelling voices at speed - and who is eager to work with correspondents to harness the potential of the world’s leading broadcaster to create impact with US, Canadian and global audiences and help them make sense of the world around them.
You would join BBC News as we expand our team in North America and raise our ambitions in what is our biggest market outside the UK.
The right person for this role will have significant experience as a video editor in daily news and is able to work quickly and creatively to tight deadlines, including in high-pressure breaking news situations.
With impeccable news judgement, informed by data, they will have a strong track-record of producing digital video content as well as assigning and publishing videos. And they will have a creative flair, backed up by filming and editing skills, to develop story ideas and innovative formats which can showcase the BBC’s expertise and on-the-ground reporting.
In this role, you would be part of a team of video journalists across North America, and would report to a manager leading the digital video strategy. You would be based in our Washington DC office but there would be opportunities for deployments around the news agenda.
The BBC is the most trusted news brand in the US. Our North American digital operation covers US and Canadian news for domestic and global audiences.
Finally, BBC News is committed to creating a more diverse and inclusive organisation. You will help us cultivate that.
This is a local hire position and eligible candidates must be able to live and work in the US (US citizenship, Green Card or work authorisation).
