DIRECTOR OF MATERIALS MANAGEMENT JOB DESCRIPTION
Under the supervision of the Chief Financial Officer, the Director of Materials Management coordinates, guides and is fully accountable for all departmental activities to support hospital wide strategic objectives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Directs the centralized procurement of all supplies, equipment and services (excluding purchases by Pharmacy, Dietary and Engineering)
- Directs and organizes timely and accurate distribution of materials, equipment and supplies throughout Health Care District
- Directs receiving, courier services and mail operations ensuring timely and accurate distribution of materials
- Develops and implements processes to monitor price trends of materials and supplies
- Develops and implements processes to provide cost-benefit analysis to substantiate decisions in product selection
- Directs the negotiation of purchase contracts, follow-up scheduling and expediting of deliveries
Non-Essential Duties:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Thorough, generalized knowledge of Central Supply practices and procedures including supply processing and materials handling systems generally acquired through two or more years experience in Central Supply activities or completion of course work leading to certification as a Certified Registered Central Supply Technician
Knowledge of Material Management practices and procedures, including all the processes of supply distribution, storage, par leveling, and patient charging mechanisms through Central Distribution. Including the efficient and cost effective procurement and distribution of quality supplies, equipment, and services through Purchasing, Receiving, Courier, and Mail systems generally acquired through two or more years in experience in the Material Management field or two years of college level study in the Material Management or related field
Knowledge of management principles and skills in the area of planning, organizing, directing, budgeting, staffing, and evaluating usually acquired through two or more years of management experience or college level courses
Knowledge of data processing and/or computer skills generally acquired through college level classes or one or more years’ experience in computer related field
Skills:
Skills in advanced computer usage
Skills with office (word processing, spreadsheets, presentation) software programs Skilled in oral and written communication

Abilities:
Ability to research, evaluate, develop, and implement new programs or projects as needed or required within time frames
Ability to communicate and interface effectively with administrative and department managers, physicians, staff, vendors and sales representatives

Ability to arrange adequate space requirements for storage of products and modifies distribution techniques and practices as required

Education and Experience: Education:
High School Graduate or General Educational Development (GED®) Test Equivalency Certificate required
Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in related field desired
Experience:
Minimum ten (10) years Purchasing and Distribution experience required Leadership/Management experience required
Healthcare experience desired
Required Licensure and/or Certifications:
Certified Purchasing Management preferred, but not required

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Work is usually performed in an office / warehouse / hospital environment and dock area.
Work may be noisy and subject to many interruptions, distractions, and temperature variations due to the close proximity of dock and open doors.
