Recreation Therapist\Leader
The recreation therapist/Leader works with the director of recreation therapy and aides to conduct programs and activities which are diversified and appropriate to the interests, physical, and mental capabilities of all residents. Participates in the program planning and care planning processes for residents to promote a resident and patient centered environment.
Employment Qualifications
- Education preferred: Associates or Bachelors in Recreation Therapy or related field (e.g. Gerontology, Music, the Arts or other Therapies) or High School Diploma with an interest in working in the nursing home population and recreation/ activities.
- Bilingual Spanish preferred.
- Computer literate that includes at minimum proficiency with Microsoft Office & Excel, and ability to navigate windows 7 and up.
- Skills: Effective verbal and non-verbal communication skills. Ability to problem solve, assess and make decisions that align with department. Must be able to work with the elderly; able to inspire and engage residents. Must be honest, reliable & trustworthy.
- Experience: previous recreation/ activities experience with a geriatric population preferred or one to three years’ experience working in a therapeutic setting or having completed an internship of 500+ hours in a recreational setting.
- Will be required to work some holidays, weekends. Fill in for evenings as needed.
- 65 resident case load.
Essential Job Functions
- Creative and energetic individual wanted that is able to lead programs with a strong presence. A compassionate professional that is reliable and a team player, and is prompt.
- Conduct person centered therapeutic recreational activities/programs, including the individual and group programs and special events, as per the monthly calendar.
- Complete resident Initial, quarterly and annual assessment forms. Shares Information with interdisciplinary team during Care Plan Meeting’s meetings regarding residents care.
- Complete appropriate sections of resident's care plan.
- Completes appropriate sections of MDS+
- Complete quarterly progress notes and other recordings as required by State regulations and the policies and procedures of Rebekah Rehab and Extended Care Center.
- Plans, develops, implements and evaluates recreation activities and programs.
- Ability to cover documentation and programs/activities in the absence of other recreation therapists.
- Facilitates outings and supervise volunteers as needed.
- Adheres to all policies and procedures relevant to performing job duties.
- Assumes other job tasks as deemed necessary and appropriate by the Director of Recreation Therapy.
