Student Success student employees (Tutors, Peer Coaches, and Supplemental Instructional Leaders) provide individual and small group assistance to students in various locations on campus and online. Meet with the students on a one-on-one or small group basis to give learning assistance. Maintain a weekly schedule of available hours in the center for the “drop-in” hours in person and online. Student employees are required to keep regular and accurate record sessions using Navigate software. All positions will attend training sessions, and workshops are required. In addition, our student employees assist with additional duties as needed, for example, covering the front desk, answering phones, organizing materials, and performing other clerical duties. Many students who come to college are surprised by how different college is in comparison to high school. Student employees can help develop good study habits and behaviors to help them remain successful at UCA until graduation.

Student Success looks for a strong GPA in college coursework, good communication skills, flexibility with regard to the work environment, openness to training, skills development, and eagerness to assist other students with transitioning to and successfully completing college.
Basic Qualifications:
Minimum GPA 2.75, Subject area 3.0; Preferred UCA GPA 3.5
Preferred minimum 30 credit hours completed.
Completion of at least 1 semester at UCA, preferred 2 semesters at UCA.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Serve as a student employee for an entire semester, exhibit a professional, positive attitude.
Recognize that students are always responsible for doing their own work; at no time are student employees to do the work for the student.
Treat everyone with respect and courtesy.
Keep confidences (confidentiality statement required).
Be on duty during assigned working hours. (arrive and leave on time)
Student employees model good study habits and effective study strategies.
Maintain accurate records of student meetings and contact.
Assist the Office of Student Success in contacting students who have not registered at the end of each term.
Assist the Office of Student Success in special events and programs.
Training Requirements: Student Success employees will meet regularly for meetings and training, complete all University Student Worker Training within the first 90 days of employment during work hours, and attend all Student Success Student employment training.
Peer Coaches, Tutors, and Supplemental Instruction leaders assist students with the following common challenges:
- Time Management
- Study Skills/Learning Strategies
- Goal Setting
- Accountability
- Test Taking Strategies
Tutors & Supplemental Instruction leaders also tutor in their specific area(s). Supplemental Instruction leaders attend weekly assigned classes (within your subject area) and hold guided study sessions as assigned.
