Job Description: Assistant Principal, Elementary K-4
QUALIFICATIONS: Elementary School Assistant Principal Administration
1. Master’s Degree or higher, with a major concentration of work in educational administration
2. At least five years of successful teaching experience
3. A valid North Carolina Teaching Certificate with five years of successful teaching experience
4. Preferred: valid NC administrative license
REPORTS TO: Principal, Executive Director
SUPERVISES:
- Teaching Staff (Kindergarten - 4th grade)
- Teacher Assistants
- Some other profession, support, or resource and service personnel while working in the school
JOB GOAL:
- Assists the Principal and Executive Director to provide instructional leadership to staff including: curriculum planning, review and implementation; and professional development.
- Assists in the day to day building administration and the safety and welfare of students, staff, volunteers, and activities.
- Leads the staff in the implementation of quality instruction.
- Ensures a safe, pleasant and effective educational atmosphere
- Provides discipline as necessary and enforces school policy.
- Assists the Principal to manage employees in the elementary school.
- Supports the Principal in setting the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of the staff within the school.
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws (for example - athletic events, PTO meetings, school dances.
- Responsible for interviewing, making recommendations for hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
The Assistant Principal will assist the Principal and Executive Director to:
- Implement and supervise Professional Learning Communities.
- Manage K-4th building staff and provide general supervision to students.
- Assist to assign teachers to classrooms and students to classes.
- As needed, contribute to creating the master schedule to effectively utilize available resources.
- Facilitate professional development for staff
- Supervise extra-curricular activities
- Support, contribute to and encourage Carolina Charter’s mission, vision and core values.
- Direct the staff in addressing the needs of all students through differentiated instruction.
- Helps to resolve staff problems and provide support to teachers
- Maintains relations with parents, parent groups, and school volunteers and outside agencies.
- Implements policy and procedure changes from the Board, or the State and Federal level at the building level.
- Maintains current educational/administrative certificate
- Ensure quality instruction is taking place in all classrooms.Instructional and curricular leadership through the development of appropriate programs and expectations.
- Evaluates performance and effectiveness of programs and staff
- Possesses strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize a multitude of tasks.
- Continual monitoring of student achievement
- Maintains the discipline and morale of students by enforcing expectations in the Student Handbook/Code of Conduct in a consistent and fair manner
- Responds to teachers and enacts discipline consequences as necessary
- Other duties as assigned by the Principal or Executive Director.
Student Services Supervision
- Manage and maintain the school’s free and reduced lunch program
- Oversee and work with the MTSS team to develop a school-wide MTSS program.
