Position Summary
Under the direction of the Lead Teacher and Clinical Director, the Youth Care Worker will provide one-to-one behavioral interventions and/or life skill development, supervision of UAC, and acculturation/adaptive training. The Youth Care Worker must be able to provide culturally relevant/competent services when clients and families need them, which can include evenings and weekends.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited or state approved college or university in human services (psychology, social services, social work, counseling, human/child development) or a related field of study, and experience in working with persons with mental health/special needs in a mental health, social services, or human services oriented public/private organization; or
- An Associate Degree from an accredited or state approved college or university in human services (psychology, social services, social work, counseling, human/child development) or a related field of study, and two years of experience in working with persons with mental health/special needs in a mental health, social services, or human services oriented public/private organization
Requirements:
- Documentation of the required education and experience requirements shall be maintained in the personnel file.
- Employee must undergo a pre-employment physical examination. This examination will be given at the employee expense by a license physician and will include a TB test as requires by Community Care Licensing. Additionally, immunization records must be submitted per ORR regulations.
- Employee must submit to a Live Scan fingerprints process. Each employee must receive clearance from Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Investigation and Child Abuse Index per Community Care Licensing.
- Employee must sign a statement acknowledging the child and elder abuse and neglect reporting.
- Participate in employee orientations, initial training, and ongoing training.
- Have a current California Driver License and automobile insurance.
- Employee must have the ability to use office machines, word processors, computers, etc. to prepare the necessary documentation, reports, etc. regarding the clients being served by Building Bridges FFA, responsibilities in Penal Code Section 11164 et seq.
- Employee shall complete a minimum of one-hour training in the area of child and elder abuse recognition, identification, assessing and reporting.
- Attainment of at least 21 years of age.
Applied Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- The Youth Care Worker will have knowledge of culturally relevant/competent behavioral health practices, case work methods, theories of cognitive behavior and behavior management, evidence-based practices, theories of child development and psychology, and regulations governing Community Care Licensed facilities.
- The Youth Care Worker will receive training and regular supervision and work at the direction of the Supervisor.
- The Youth Care Worker will have the ability and willingness to be supportive, empathetic, and non-judgmental of UAC populations and will possess excellent multicultural awareness and appreciation of diversity.
- The Youth Care Worker must be of good character and reputation, able to conduct her/himself as a professional, able to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, and willing to conform to and carry out agency policy, procedures, and programs.
- The Youth Care Worker shall be physically able to perform the following:
- Lead physical activities for UAC, including sports and outdoor recreation
- Provide safe transportation to UAC who may at times become physically aggressive.
- Must be physically able in a crisis-situation to apply de-escalation techniques per Building Bridges FFA policy and Pro-ACT (Professional Assault Crisis Training) training.
- Provide direct supervision of UAC.
Essential Responsibilities
- The Youth Care Worker shall not perform duties required by state regulations to be performed by a Case Manager, but may assist in case management or providing adjunct, supportive services.
- The Youth Care Worker may be assigned to any Building Bridges UAC Tutoring Center.
- The Youth Care Worker is tasked with supervision of UAC at the Tutoring Center, including signing UAC in and out of the center.
- The Youth Care Worker will collaborate with other Building Bridges UAC professional and paraprofessional staff to develop training topics and materials for acculturation and adaptive training. Trainings will be presented by Youth Care Worker.
- The Youth Care Worker will lead physical and leisure activities at the Tutoring Center.
- The Youth Care Worker shall perform therapeutic activities which may include:
- Individual behavioral counseling interventions and support designed to assist UAC to engage in, or become engaged in, appropriate activities and to minimize impulsive behavior.
- Interventions that provide immediate behavioral support and to prevent inappropriate behavioral responses.
- Interventions designed to improve UAC’s social and community competencies through building.
- Reinforcing daily living skills that will enhance the UAC’s ability to successfully live at home and in his/her community.
- Cognitive behavioral interventions.
- Trauma informed care interventions.
- UAC supervision and time structuring.
- Support to and collaboration with the UAC’s resource family, in order to create and sustain a positive living environment.
- May engage in sports and outdoor activities as a part of an approved client treatment plan.
- The Youth Care Worker shall write case notes, incident reports, and other required documentation.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
