Full Time School Social Worker
We are looking for an extraordinary school social worker to join the AGC community. Our school social worker provides comprehensive school social work support to students, parents and school staff, addressing barriers that limit a student from receiving the full benefit from their educational experience. They respond to referrals from school administration, parents, and staff, by providing direct services. We are looking for an innovative thinker with a desire to support the vision and mission of the Academy for Global Citizenship. Meticulous attention to detail (documentation) and strong problem-solving capabilities are essential.
Responsibilities
- Caseload Responsibilities
- Provide eligible students with the specific services they are legally entitled to receive, according to their IEPs/504 Plan.
- Attend and participate in referral/annual/triennial/FBA-BIP meetings.
- Using standardized assessment tools, collect objective data to assist in determining eligibility for Specialized Services based on IDEA criteria.
- Design and execute Functional Behavioral Data to design Behavioral Intervention Plans
- Maintain documentation of records and data for SEL, IEP, and 504 plans.
- Collaborate with teachers and paraprofessionals about student needs with the objective to implement the IEP/504 plan.
- Collaborate with families and medical caregivers with knowledge about a student to design the best support for students.
- Proactively communicate with the Director of Student Services and Case Managers about student needs.
- SEL Support
- Works alongside the Leadership team to provide proactive and responsive support (examples: Peace Circles, Restorative Justice Circles, Conflict Resolution, Peer to Peer support, etc.)
- Guide teachers aligned with Responsive Classrooms approach and culturally relevant lens
- Support social emotional curriculum and provide staff development and support in bringing curriculum alive
- Support the teacher in mediating conflicts between students-families-teachers

Expected Skills and Experience:
- Counseling children on an individual, group, or family basis; consulting with administrators, teachers, parents, and other professionals about student problems and appropriate change strategies;
- Networking with school programs and community agencies to provide essential services for families and children; understanding of the knowledge, skills, and processes for effective casework practice;
- Understanding of the school social work profession including associated laws (IDEA, ADA, compulsory attendance, etc.), ethical issues, professional issues and standards;
- Familiarity with the Chicago Public Schools Student Services Management (SSM) - ideal but not required
- Knowledge of the foundations of school psychology;
- Knowledge of the role and function of the school social worker;
- Understanding of child development, psychopathology, social and environmental conditioning, cultural diversity and family systems.
Education Requirements:
- Master's of Social Work (MSW) from an accredited school of social work with a minimum of 60 graduate semester hours;
- Professional Educator License (PEL) required
- School Social Worker license required;
- A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
