Database Administrators are responsible for establishing database management systems, standards, guidelines, and quality assurance for database deliverables, such as: conceptual design, performance tuning, logical database, capacity planning, external data interface specifications, data loading plan, data maintenance plan, and security policy.
The SQL Server Database Administrator will be actively involved in the evaluation, review, and management of database resources and services across the organization in order to ensure a high level of database integrity is reached and maintained. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of forming an excellent database infrastructure from the ground up in close association with peer teams and vendors. While providing the database expertise needed for the team’s success, this individual will also be required to develop, follow, and enforce database standards. This position will require an individual who can work with minimal supervision on a wide range of projects interfacing with development teams, product owners, Technology management, and members of the business community while constantly ensuring that their work is aligned with the business and technology customers. A DBA is also expected to stay current on database technology while also continuing to grow knowledge of the Costco Travel business.

ROLE
- Deploys and maintains Database infrastructure/objects.
- Maintains database security, integrity, and availability.
- Manages database performance and capacity.
- Implements database design enhancements.
- Collaborates with the Development team and the server administrators for dropping/adding partitions, index maintenance including Reorgs, data purging, etc.
- Reviews and approves Forms, table, and index creation using the Turnover process.
- Maintains detailed documentation of database Design/Architecture and setup.
- Establishes procedures for backup/recovery and disaster recovery.
- Establishes database security procedures.
- Maintains current knowledge of industry trends and standards.
- Provides support to the user community using incident and problem management tools.
- Deploys and maintains Microsoft SQL Server databases/DB projects across a range of current SQL Server versions in both physical and virtual environments.
- Collaborates with the Development team on creating and evaluating stored procedures, tables, indexes, etc.
- Analyzes and addresses code issues and inefficiencies in production related to potential blocking, timeouts, and deadlocks.
- Works with team members to establish routine maintenance, monitoring, alerting, and collecting metrics to proactively identify database related issues, and keep all databases highly available and highly responsive at all times.
- Configures and monitors clustering including Always On and Failover clustering.
- Designs and builds operational infrastructure to support our databases, automating where possible.
- Creates users, assigns roles, and manages permissions.
REQUIRED
- 5+ years’ MS SQL Database Administration experience in an ecommerce environment.
- 3+ years’ experience with relational database performance techniques.
- 3+ years’ experience using Transact SQL.
- 3+ years’ database design & architecture following best practices in an OLTP environment.
- Strong knowledge of high availability and Disaster Recovery architecture.
- Experience in Performance Tuning and Capacity Planning.
- Working knowledge and experience with Microsoft Azure database services and offerings.
- Understanding of industry best practices pertaining to relational database management systems.
- Knowledge of database connectivity at logical and physical levels.
- Ability to support off-hours work as required, including weekends, holidays, and 24/7 on call responsibilities on a rotational basis.
- Ability to follow priorities, meet deadlines, and adhere to change management policies.
- Ability to communicate in a professional manner when interacting across staff levels and internal/external customers.
- Ability to work independently and as an integral member of a team.

Level 2 - $95,000 - $130,000
Level 3 - $120,000 - $155,000
