Core Responsibilities:
A Controls Engineer/Controls Technician will:
This position requires the individual to participate-in, perform, or lead the design, development, implementation, testing, startup and tuning of process control system automation projects. This involves knowledge of process control concepts, strong programming acumen, and strong tendencies with attention to detail. This position requires a technical acumen, ability for critical analysis, sequential thinking, and attention to detail with an emphasis on strong computer skills.
The position requires supporting multiple customer industrial sites on a regular basis and being available for emergency after normal business hour support and possible weekend assignments. Individuals must be capable of, and diligent about, compliance with safety rules and regulations in these environments. In this role you will be required to develop expertise in cyber securing industrial control networks and self-initiated learning is required. Attention to detail and awareness of potential safety hazards is expected at all times. Maturity and sound judgment are essential to working in this environment.
· The Controls Engineer/Controls Technician will work as part of a project team or independently as Project Manager/Controls Engineer. As part of the project team, the Controls Engineer must be able to effectively communicate with all members of the Project Team. As a Project Manager the Controls Engineer must be able to communicate effectively with her/his customers that may include Operators, I&C Technicians, Plant Engineers, and Plant Managers.
· Perform various phases of planning, site evaluations, feasibility studies, cost estimating, scheduling, designs, report preparation, specifications, preparation of proposals, construction documentation, and I&C plans as part of a project team. This position will work on various projects with a diverse portfolio of project types and clients. Work with a design team consisting of engineers, designers, and drafters to produce a complete drawing installation package. The Controls Engineer will be responsible for the project implementation including oversight of instrument technicians, SCADA technicians, and contractors.
· Provide input into the creation of deliverables including control system network architecture drawings, control system narratives, specifications, bill of materials, exterior and interior enclosure layouts, internal enclosure power distribution, internal enclosure cabling and wiring, field I/O termination drawings, enclosure/equipment/instrument location drawings, motor elementaries, loop sheets, P&IDs/PFDs, installation plans, marshalling cabinet terminations, demo drawings.
· Support Maintenance and Operations needs such as troubleshooting, interlock testing, valve tuning, and modification of loops as needed.
· Perform construction related services to include shop drawings reviews, response to requests for information, and perform periodic site visits to observe construction.
· Develop an in-depth understanding of ICS cybersecurity concepts, best practices, tools, and standards.
· Regional travel 25-50%
· Participation in local organizations that support professional development and networking opportunities.
Qualifications:
· Demonstrated proficiency with Allen-Bradley platforms (Studio5000, RSLogix5000, FactoryTalk View SE, RSLinx, etc.) and hardware (ControlLogix, CompactLogix, MicroLogix, FlexIO, Panelview, etc.)
· Requires comprehensive understanding of the design of instrumentation and controls relative to the design development and drafting of P&IDs, Analog and Digital Logic Diagrams, Instrument Location Drawings, Instrument Connection and Installation Details, I/O List, Instrument List, Control System Architecture, Operator Interface Layout Drawings, and calculations.
· Strong understanding of electrical drawings and ability to troubleshoot instrumentation and controls problems.
· SCADA system design and implementation experience in process control systems, control system network architecture development, control strategy development, and network security.
· High level proficiency configuring and troubleshooting function blocks, ladder logic, SAMA logic, structured text programming.
· Network experience including configuration and troubleshooting of switches, Ethernet IP, DeviceNet, Modbus TCP, ISA100, WirelessHart, and other common industrial communication protocols.
· Experience with Inductive Automation - Ignition, Wonderware, Python, Wireshark, Maximo, or OSI PI experience is a plus
· Ability to effectively self-learn and teach others how to utilize new design software programs.
· Minimum 1 years of hands-on Controls Engineering experience in industrial plant environment.
· Experience in Process Controls environment preferred.
· Should possess good understanding and knowledge of industry codes and standards (ISA, NFPA/NEC, IEEE, ANSI, NEMA)
· Must be available to work overtime and Saturdays and Sundays if needed.
· Must be able to obtain required security clearances if needed.
· Have and maintain a valid driver’s license, passport, and the ability to travel internationally
· Strong analytical, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
· Must be a U.S. Citizen or green card holder.
· Successful completion of drug screen and background check
Education & Experience:
· BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or Computer Engineering from an accredited college/university or equivalent experience.
· Associates degree from technical will be considered with relevant experience.
· 1-5 years' work experience in industrial controls and/or system integration with a strong focus on software design, programming, and troubleshooting, or plant site specific experience with Foxboro DCS.
