The Substance Use Counselor serves as the main source of contact between patient and program, and the facilitator of screening, assessment, individual, and group services to patients.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Develop relationships with shelters in NYC to obtain referrals and ongoing outreach of First Steps OASAS outpatient program.
· Conduct or review assessment information to determine the substance abuse needs and preferences of persons served.
· Provide individual counseling or conduct groups that address substance abuse issues.
· Develop and maintain working relationships with alcohol and substance abuse detoxification, rehabilitation, and treatment centers.
· Utilizing Harm Reduction, Trauma Informed Care, Motivated Interviewing, and other Evidence Based Practices.
· Provide group/individual counseling.
· Guide the use of onsite drug testing for clients whose service plans have listed goals.
· Promote a smoke-free environment.
· Utilize Naloxone when and provide crisis intervention when needed.
· Collaborate with peer counselors, medical, and client support representatives to provide collaborative services.
· Maintain up-to-date, accurate individual paper and electronic case records.
· Comply with attendance and timekeeping rules and reports reliably and regularly to work on an on-going basis.
· Attend regularly scheduled clinical meetings, staff meetings and supervision as well as in-service training and development activities.
· Execute emergency plans as outlined in the policy and procedure manual; administer CPR or first aid to staff or clients who require such services.
· Obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid certifications.
· Participate in management and supervision meetings.
· Immediately reports serious incidents, allegations of abuse, incidents, or sensitive situations and completes incident reports in accordance with agency policy.
· Comply and promote compliance with all applicable laws, regulations and agency policies helping to strengthen and maintain an ethical organizational culture.
· May have on-call responsibilities.
· Perform other job-related duties that may be assigned.
· Use individual patient data to inform clinical decision-making and identify areas for improvement; use data to track patient progress over time.
· Work with the entire Bridging Access to Care team to apply a continuous quality improvement approach (i.e. the Plan-Do-Study-Act cycle), to address systemic, organization-wide challenges.
· Complete QI training during onboarding process and participate in QI refresher training as needed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Bilingual preferred; Flexible, Ability to meet deadlines; Use of Motivational Interviewing techniques/stage wise treatment and IDDT, WRAP Knowledge of Harm Reduction, Ability to prioritize, follow policy and procedures. Ability to deliver Trauma informed, Client Centered Treatment
WORK EXPERIENCE:
· 1yr experience/training in integrated mental health and substance abuse assessment/treatment
· Motivational Interviewing techniques
CERTIFICATION:
CASAC/CASAC-T Required
LMSW/LCSW/LMHC Strongly Preferred
