The IT Academic Technology Department at St. Catherine University invites applications for a full-time Senior Instructional Designer, which will focus on both instruction and technology.
The IT Academic Technology Department supports academic platforms and technology critical for faculty, staff, and students. As part of the McGlynn Information Technology Center’s Academic Technology Team, the Senior Instructional Designer manages instructional design technology systems and processes in support of excellent academic instruction across delivery formats (face-to-face, hybrid, and fully online). The person in this role uses a high degree of knowledge and expertise in the areas of learning science, adult learning, instructional design, Universal Design, and accessibility standards to guide and support faculty in creating learner-centered instruction and assessment. This individual takes a senior role in creating and delivering professional development offerings that meet the pedagogical and technical needs of faculty teaching in St. Kate’s online environment. The Senior Instructional Designer has a profound impact on student and faculty success in the online learning environment.
Responsibilities Include:
1. Instructional Development
- Lead faculty through processes to enhance instructional quality and student experiences.
- Analyze learning needs in conjunction with learning outcomes and suggest activities, including pedagogically appropriate technologies.
- Facilitate projects to redesign face-to-face courses into effective hybrid or fully online courses, including designing and developing instructional materials and media elements.
2. Quality Standards
- Review individual course designs and teaching efforts against quality criteria.
Train faculty/staff peer review teams in how to participate in a course quality review.

3. Academic Technology Tools
- Apply a broad and deep knowledge of available academic technology to effective instructional use.
- Provide instruction and support to faculty, staff, and students in how to use academic technology tools, including troubleshooting issues as necessary.
- Lead efforts to provide documentation, help guides, recorded tutorials and other resources to support the use of academic technology tools at St. Kate’s.
4. Faculty Development
- Facilitate existing asynchronous faculty development offerings.
- Create and present synchronous and asynchronous faculty development workshops and events.
Integrate the training offerings of third-party vendors and other trainers into the experiences Academic Technology provides.

5. Secondary Administrator for Kaltura (and other LTIs as assigned)
- Understand the basics of the organizational information, structure, permissions, and asset management within the Kaltura system to troubleshoot in the absence of the Primary Administrator.
- Understand the integration of the Kaltura system within the University’s course management system(s) to provide support to instructors and other end users.
- Prepare and update help guides, tutorials, and Knowledge Base (KB) articles for end user awareness and training.
- Troubleshoot issues with the system and submit vendor support tickets as needed.
Monitor periodic system updates and upgrades.

6. Professional Development
- Continually update personal knowledge and skills about learning technology equipment and software systems through reading, in-house and external trainings, and professional conferences.
Share this knowledge with the Academic Technology team and others at the University as appropriate.
