2nd Shift Refrigeration Technician
This Refrigeration Utilities Technician position is to be effective, consistent, and responsible for preventative, predictive and breakdown maintenance of plant assets in an efficient manner to sustain and improve reliability.
The equipment and systems that this position works with includes all the plants ammonia refrigeration systems, boilers, water systems, compressed air systems, and fire protection systems. This position is responsible for following and supporting plant and company specific policies and procedures related to the systems above as well as regulatory PSM/RMP rules and standards that apply to ammonia refrigeration. The position will be required to become a member of the plant emergency response team.
Role and Activity
Factory Engineers and dept
- This is a hands-on role, providing visibility and accessibility on the factory floor and refraining from sitting in the workshop waiting for a call.
- Ensure that the refrigeration equipment is operational and available for production On time startups with minimal waist.
- Keeping yourself updated of production plans & any changes. It is important to be proactive in finding out what is happening around you rather than waiting to be fed.
- Look for issues, create follow-up work orders and not wait to be told or instructed to complete a task.
- Awareness of all machinery problems or any unfinished jobs.
- Ensure break downs are addressed and corrected in a timely manner.
- Create a “one person for one job” policy unless the job requires more than one person, examples are training, line breaking, etc.……never compromise safety.
- Ensure your work areas are operating under discipline, the workplace, workshop and stores are clean, organized and tidy by maintaining a clean as you go policy in all areas
- Ensure the machines produce products that meet customer specification, quality and food safety.
- Proactively looking for areas of improvement and to adopt techniques and practices that ensure that there is a quality environment in production.
- Ensure that health and safety requirements are fully met and that a positive safety culture is maintained throughout the factory and team.
- Ensure that you walk the talk and use the looking eyes, attend to issues as, and when they happen.
- Ensure you have significant Shop floor presence to monitor and control production line performance and take promptly corrective actions on issues.
- Promote the Froneri culture of treating the business as yours.
MRO Stores
- Ensure spare parts are always correctly scanned out and accounted for.
- Ensure Items being disposed of are stripped of any usable parts.
- Ensure repairable parts being replaced are returned to the MRO store for shipment to vendor for repairs.
- Treat the storeroom like your own stores at home, promoting ownership.
Maintenance Tasks
- Responsibilities will include repairs and preventative maintenance of all the Refrigeration systems, HVAC systems, Inspecting the equipment, and performing daily rounds to ensure compliance of our PSM and RMP policies.
- Perform routine and breakdown maintenance of boilers, air compressors, condenser systems and waste-water treatment system.
- Required knowledge of the typical refrigeration cycle, ammonia control valves, and related piping as needed for safe service and repair.
- Must be able to read, follow basic and advanced electrical and refrigeration drawings/schematics.
- Provide informal and formal training for other Refrigeration/Utility team members as required through the “Refrigeration/Utility training program”.
- Utilize construction and fabrication skills.
- Ensure PMs are completed in a timely manner and ensuring mechanical integrity of the ammonia system per PSM/RMP guidance is followed.
- Create corrective work orders as needed
- Ensure and monitor safe work practices and safety guidelines.
- Be actively involved in all 14+ elements of the PSM/RMP Programs
- Be an active member of the emergency response team.
- Always keep full and up to date records of all equipment with maintained traceability.
- Perform basic PC skills.
- Drive the tasks through required work from observations and data, not just theoretical plans.
- Maintenance follows production, not the other way around.
- Ensure that maintenance tasks adhere to company food safety polices. Ensure that all parts and tools are sanitized before use on the production floor.
- Ensure all working practices comply with company rules and procedures in order that you and any other persons using the area of work can do so safely.

Position Qualifications:
- 18 years of age or older
- Aptitude for automated mechanical processes with good troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
- Excellent interpersonal communication, math and problem solving skills.
- Ability to work multiple shifts and/or schedules.
- High School diploma or GED or equivalent experience
- One-year related experience and Ammonia experience (preferred)
Work Environment:
In this position, the employee will regularly work with and around others; in a wet and/or humid environment; in areas of high noise level; and around mechanical, electrical, and pressurized equipment. The work is fast paced.
The position involves frequent exposure to nuts and other potential allergens.
The pay scale for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. At Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The pay range for prospective employees in this role is between $31.48 - $36.38, depending on experience.
