General:
Operates the Strander and Jacket Line consistently meeting Hendrix’s quality and productivity requirements in a safe manner with minimum scrap.
Responsibilities:
· Complies with company safety rules at all times during working hours and ensures the safety of himself/herself and others at his/her operating station.
· Responsible in keeping equipment and work area in a clean and orderly fashion.
· Works in a professional manner, punctual and highly dependable.
· Mechanically sets up strander and jacket line, pay-offs through take-up operations, including installation of appropriate tooling and all auxiliary line equipment needed to produce varying cable designs described in the Engineering Specification.
· Consistently monitors the supply of raw material to ensure a continuous operation.
· Performs required measurements with company approved measuring devices to ensure final process meets the required specifications (reference SLP 016 and SLP 017).
· Verifies the measuring devices are calibrated.
· Generate product identification tags for finished product and maintains accurate record keeping of all pertinent information required by Hendrix, including work center line quality records.
· Visually inspect neutral spools for damaged wires.
· Perform cold welds of bare neutral wires to maintain spool operation.
· Responsible for scrapping balance copper from the unloaded spools using sweed chopper.
· Performs head clean-ups and screw pulls when required or as according to schedule.
· Shares in the responsibility of terminating jacketed cable for electrical testing, if applicable.
· Completes and passes Fork Lift Safety Training.
· In the absence of a primary Material Handler, shares in the responsibility for servicing the work center as a Material Handler, if applicable.
· Takes corrective action to ensure quality product.
· Participates in scheduled team meetings and contributes to continuous improvement.
· Participates in maintaining ISO certification.
· Adheres to applicable System Level Procedures (SLPs).
· Emergency Action Warden: is responsible to be an Emergency Action Warden for sector 8.
· (primary)1-Line Jacket Operator
· (secondary) 3/5-Line Jacket Operator, if the 1-Line Operator is unavailable or is not able to fulfill the function
Position: Jacket Line Operator
Knowledge
· Understanding of the basic extrusion line operation including the line components associated with the processes.
· Operation of the pay-off and take-up equipment.
· Tools and measuring devices applicable to the industry.
· ISO requirements pertaining to the lines.
· Identification and tagging of finished product.
· Assembly, disassembly and cleaning of extruder heads.
· Assembly, disassembly and cleaning of auxiliary vertical extruder.
· Selection and installation of extruder screws.
· Compound conveyor system.
· Compound dryers.
· Temperature, air and water controls.
· Power switches.
· Internal/industry codes and abbreviations used to identify compounds and conductors.
· Loading and unloading of neutral spools.
· Principles of cold welding.
· Principles of a crimp connection
· Powder Applicator operation (Waterblock powder), when applicable.
Skills
Position requires individuals with proven mechanical aptitude. Must have the ability to:
· Read micrometers and other related precision tools.
· Perform shop arithmetic.
· Read and follow written instructions.
· Communicate effectively to receive and pass on information and instructions.
· Troubleshoot basic line problems.
· Continuously pay attention to detail.
· Fulfill simple computer tasks.
· Work within a Team structure.
Prerequisites
Position required individuals to have the ability to:
· Lift up to seventy-five (75) pounds from the floor to chest.
· Maneuver roll (exert up to one hundred (100) pounds of force), spin and align reels up to a 90” safely. (Johnson bar can be used to maneuver.)
· Exert thirty (30) to fifty (50) pounds of force with cable cutters.
· Visually inspect quality of product.
· Use hand held tools and measuring devices.
