SEEKING: Candidates with Great Customer Service and Hands-On Experience doing Set Design, Carpentry, Theater Tech to Join Our Operations Team
Job Summary: As part of the Operations team, NYCDA Technical Services Coordinators work together to ensure the smooth daily operation of the Conservatory’s classroom studios; delivering equipment, setting up classrooms and providing technical and operational assistance to faculty, students and staff.
They deliver excellent customer service in the face of quickly changing priorities and demands.
They take responsibility to help keep the campus safe by participating in health and safety protocols as required.
We are specifically seeking candidates with hands-on experience doing Set Design, Carpentry and Theater Tech as well as great customer service to round out the team’s skillsets and join our Operations Team.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Work with the Technical Services Team members to ensure that camera, dance and music classroom studio equipment is set up correctly, is fully-functioning and is prepared for each class.
Respond quickly to technical problems and special requests from conservatory faculty.
Ensure a safe, clean environment in the studios and on the campus.
Take responsibility for making sure tasks are completed and logs are kept as required.
Follow the plan for each day’s set-ups, movements and breakdowns, monitor scheduling software for new and modified studio bookings, and prepare equipment needed.
Perform as part of the Campus Life Safety Team
Specific duties:
Set-up and breakdown A/V equipment.
Set and adjust studio lighting as needed.
Perform technical maintenance and light repairs.
Routinely test all equipment at setup.
Respond to faculty and student needs proactively and helpfully.
Troubleshoot equipment failures or problems quickly and efficiently.
Make setup adjustments on the fly, as needed.
Conduct routine studio and production office maintenance and repairs as needed.
Conduct regular disinfection of classrooms and campus areas in accordance with health and safety protocols
May be called upon to:
Open or close the campus and office
Compress recorded audio and video and upload to the internet
Capture audio and video directly to hard disc via Quicktime Pro software
Perform as a member of the Life Safety Team in facility emergencies, training and drills
Provide backup to all other Operations staff as the need arises and perform other related duties as assigned
Perform light cleaning of facilities (sweeping, dusting, trash etc.)
Help with campus repairs
Help repair equipment or appliances
Help build or repair furniture or set pieces
REQUIREMENTS
2 years of experience working with theatrical and/or camera equipment setups, experience with carpentry, set construction, stage management, OR degree or certification from technical training school
Basic working knowledge of online meeting platforms (Zoom)
Basic understanding of audio/video signal flow
Working familiarity with 3 CCD digital cameras
Knowledge of basic studio lighting techniques and equipment
Experience with hardware tools and electrical equipment
Proficiency with Macintosh operating systems and Final Cut Pro software
Working knowledge of audio and video compression for the web
Strong customer service focus, including maintaining a calm, friendly and helpful demeanor in emergencies.
Team player able to thrive in a fast-paced environment with constantly shifting priorities
Excellent ability to listen, grasp concepts, follow instructions and express ideas and thoughts effectively
Flexibility to occasionally work overtime
Able to perform occasional heavy work, e.g., lift 30-50 lbs., climb ladder, move furniture, equipment etc.
Salary & Benefits: This is a part-time, 30 hours per week, non-exempt position. Starting salary is $20.00/hour. Accrued vacation, sick and personal time. Opportunity for advancement upon review. First review is given at six months and the second review at one year.
We are hiring for weekday morning or evening and Saturday shifts to be covered.
A typical shift schedule is six hours per day five days per week.
We are looking for candidates who have availability between the hours of 8am-7pm weekdays and 8am-4pm Saturdays during the summer, and availability between the hours of 8am and 9pm weekdays and 8am-4pm Saturdays during the school year.
