Job Title: Animal Caretaker/Intern
Job Summary:
We are seeking a live-in animal caretaker to intern at our USDA Wolfdog facility in Middletown, OHIO. This is an unpaid internship but offers free housing in a large farm house. Interns each enjoy a large private bedroom and bathroom with communal living downstairs. Must get along with others and be passionate about animal care.
Our last intern accepted a FT position at the Cincinnati Zoo. We are a great launch for individuals wanting experience with large carnivores.
Duties:
- Conduct animal care 4 mornings a week (approx. 8:30am-11am)
- Learn about wolves and wolfdogs, their care, behavior and dietary needs
- Help with habitat maintenance and construction
- Learn Cooperative Care training practices
- Assist our large volunteer teams on alternating Saturday afternoons (1pm-5pm)
- Learn about USDA requirements, protocols and health standards
- Process food for the animals - - Assist with tours and our educational programs
Requirements:
- High school diploma required. Associates or higher degree preferred or relevant work experience.
- Attention to details and USDA protocols
- Interest in high standards of animal care
- Willingness to work with our trainer to learn Cooperative Care training
