Awixa Home of LI, Inc. is a not-for-profit 501(c) (3) New York State QRTP designated organization which is licensed and monitored by New York State Office of Children and Family Services (NYS OCFS). Awixa was founded in 2001 to provide children & youth with a safe, nurturing and home-like environment where they will be empowered to change the world with their own two hands.
The primary goal at Awixa is to help our youth reunite with their families, or when there are no families to reunite, to empower our youth to be fully self-sufficient.
Awixa operates three separate nine bed group homes; one for adolescent boys ages 12 years to 21 years old, and one for adolescent girls ages 12 years to 21 years old, and a parenting program.
Agency CASAC
Reporting Relationship: Reports to the Director of Social Services.
Position Summary: Agency CASAC will administer substance use assessment tools to evaluate clients and determine eligibility for service provision. Agency CASAC will facilitate the following for all applicable group home clients:
- Diagnostic Assessment;
- Evaluation;
- Intervention;
- Referral; and
- Substance Use Disorder counseling in both individual and group settings.
General Responsibilities and Accountability: The Agency CASAC is responsible for Awixa’s consistent achievement of quality of care in health-related substance use service provision and maintaining the standards put forth by NYS OCFS regulations, NYS OASAS regulations, NYS DOH 29i licensure requirements, and TJC standards of care.
Job Description:
- Provides substance use treatment services and ensures all required services are being provided, documented, and completed within the required timelines
- Reviews all health care information and medical records
- Works with the direct treatment providers to establish treatment goals for children, utilizing historical and current available information specifically focused around achieving and maintaining sobriety.
- Provides prescription and non-prescription medication consultation according to the scope of practice of the practitioner.
- Recommends substance abuse treatment services for clients based on outcomes of assessments conducted.
- Advises the local department of social services (LDSS) commissioners and the VFCA executive directors regarding the substance abuse needs of the children in their care and/or care and custody
- Meets and communicates with biological families, guardians, foster families, and caseworkers regarding services needed and coping techniques to achieve and maintain sobriety.
- Undergoes clinical supervision with the Clinical Supervision for no less than 2 hours monthly.
Skills and Qualifications
- Experience in child welfare system
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with families, casework staff, residential staff, and other colleagues.
- Management of diverse and complex cases
- Computer savvy with MS Outlook software experience as well as ability to learn/use internal EHR
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
- Certification in/use of Evidence Based models preferred, but if not, applicant can be trained in CWTTT.
- Bilingual capability - English/Spanish, a plus
Minimum Requirements
- Valid NYS OASAS Credentialed Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point)
- Intercultural skills
