Job Goal: The Library/Makersapce Utility Aide assists other staff members and student patrons of the Library and Makerspace by utilizing technology to create a learning culture in which students can learn to persevere through problem-solving struggles, collaborate, and innovate to develop creative solutions to real world and curriculum-based problems. This position requires the employee to plan, organize, and execute maker-related programming and raise the profile of the new Makerspace as a resource for STEAM learning. This position also requires regular and prompt attendance plus the ability to work well with others and as a team member.
This is a part time position that follows the school year calendar.
Hours are as follows:
Tuesday (8:00 AM-4:00 PM
Thursday 8:00 AM -4:00 PM
Responsibilities:
- Works under the direction of the School Library Media Specialist who issues instructions regarding work assignments and who reviews work for compliance to instructions, department rules and procedures.
- Assists in the planning and presenting of diverse and creative programs for students on a regular basis.
- Teaches basic certification, safety, and training sessions covering all Makerspace equipment.
- Documents and maintains Makerspace inventory and service records.
- Provides formal and informal Makerspace assistance for Staff and Patrons.
- Updates, maintains, and troubleshoots equipment.
- Answers telephone and directs questions to appropriate staff members or departments, as appropriate.
- Uses library automated systems for library transactions under Library Media Specialist's instruction
- Assists in shelving library materials and helps maintain an orderly and patron-oriented collection.
- Supports student patrons in the use of the library, particularly how to locate materials and services and how to use them.
- Monitors and manages patron activities in the library and addresses patron behavior according to school and library policy
