Position Summary:
- Reports to the Laboratory Operations Director.
- Performs routine and complex clinical laboratory tests in accordance with established standards and procedures.

- Diagnostic testing requires a professional level of knowledge to properly execute and analyze results, especially where results are abnormal or atypical.
- Ability to perform successfully and independently in a rapidly changing environment.
- Maintains composure in high stress situations while exercising initiative and sound judgement.
- Specific duties may vary according to laboratory and shift assigned.
- Cross training into Molecular/Immunology department
- Specimen accessioning is included in this role.
- Operates laboratory equipment and performs scheduled maintenance on instrumentation following laboratory guidelines.
- Recognizes, troubleshoots, and documents equipment problems, contacting service when appropriate.
- Produces accurate and timely laboratory test results.
- Evaluates laboratory test results according to age and/or diagnosis.
- Utilizes laboratory equipment and supplies/consumables.
- Evaluates quality control results within established parameters.
- Maintains quality control records by completing corrective action forms, logging quality control values, etc.
- Corrects detected problems, documenting corrective action taken.
- Maintains effective communication skills within the laboratory and with other healthcare professionals in the organization.
- Assist in training employees, students, and other healthcare professionals in laboratory testing methodology.
- Ability to use and understand Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and follow Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) Manuals.
· Maintains quality assurance practices in compliance with Capital Digestive Care’s policies and in adherence to Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations, including accreditation and licensure requirements.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
- Work requires formal educational background in biology, chemistry, hematology, immunohematology, and microbiology normally acquired through completion of a two- or four-year post-secondary school program in clinical laboratory technology/medical technology and/or equivalent education and training in microbiology, chemistry, hematology, immunohematology, or related field. BS degree in Medical Technology/Clinical Laboratory Science, preferred. Molecular experience is highly desirable, but not required.
- Certification through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT) is not required, but highly desired. It is strongly recommended that those hired without a certification are eligible to sit for the board exam and obtain a certification within two years of hire.
Work Experience:
- This role is intended for individuals with at least one year of clinical laboratory experience or an equivalent work experience related to the discipline.
