POSITION TITLE: Youth Specialist
STATUS: Exempt
REPORTS TO: Program Manager
POSITION DESCRIPTION: Provide comprehensive child development and support services to the children of participants in HOW’s permanent supportive housing and other programs with a strong emphasis on academic improvement and success. Work collaboratively with HOW staff toward family goals as they relate to the well-being of children and families.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Work in conjunction with HOW staff toward family goals.
· Create individualized plans with children and families to support family identified goals.
· Perform outreach to families and engage parents and children.
· Implement programs and activities to address the educational, social, and developmental needs of children and youth.
· Use assessment to identify concerns with child development and provide appropriate interventions and referrals.
· Participate in tutoring and enrichment programs through oversight and direct support.
· Build relationships with community organizations/partner agencies and link children to external community resources as needed.
· Act as a liaison between parents, schools, and other educational supports.
· Actively participate in staff meetings and staff development opportunities.
· Participate in program planning and evaluation.
· Use a variety of tools to measure progress towards family identified goals.
· Enter and track data and progress in HOW’s database systems to measure student outcomes.
· Assist with advocacy, outreach, and development efforts.
· Participate in all relevant HOW meetings and trainings.
· Ability to work flexible hours according to program needs.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
· Assist with direct client services by providing in home developmental assessments for preschoolers as needed. Provide appropriate follow up and ongoing support to parents and children.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, Child Development or Psychology required.
RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE:
· Minimum two-years’ experience working with youth and children
· Knowledge of homelessness and housing issues
· Knowledge of Affordable Housing practices (Housing First, Harm Reduction, Trauma Informed Care)
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills; exceptional organizational skills; excellent research abilities
· Proficient in Microsoft Office Programs, including Excel and Word
· Comfortable working within a collaborative team setting
· Must be able to communicate effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and needs
REQUIREMENTS:
· Must have secure home internet connection and be able to work from home
· Must have a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance and a reliable car
· Must pass applicable background checks
· Ability to lift 25 pounds, and walk up and down stairs
· Must complete and pass CANTS screening
SPECIAL CERTIFICATES OR LICENSES REQUIRED:
STARTING SALARY: Starting at $40,000 per year, depending on experience
WORK SCHEDULE: Full-time (40 hours); regular business hours with occasional nights and weekends.
