PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Responsible for clerical tasks and assisting physician/nurse practitioner with patient care.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP:
Reports directly to Physician Office Program Director. Works closely with Physician/Nurse Practitioner, office staff, and Hospital staff.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Prepare patient for examination.
- Maintain accurate electronic medical records.
- Assist physician/practitioner with patient examinations.
- Clean examination rooms between patients.
- Maintain and order medical supplies as needed.
- Communicate with patients regarding messages.
- Contact insurance companies to verify patient benefits and to obtain pre-authorizations/pre-certifications for all procedures/surgeries as required.
- Notify patient of monetary responsibility due for co-pay, co-insurance, and deductible for procedures/surgeries.
- Scan all documents into patient profile utilizing image titles for identification.
- Make referrals in an accurate and timely manner, as directed by physician/practitioner.
- Respect and maintains patient confidentiality at all times, in and out of the office.
- Attend meetings as required.
- Perform other related duties as requested or assigned.
EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:
- Certified Medical Office Assistant.
- Ability to prioritize and organize multiple tasks within the job scope.
- Capability to work well with others in a busy office atmosphere.
- Ability to take direction from physician/practitioner and supervisor.
- Capacity to communicate pleasantly, in an understanding manner, with patients and/or their family members.
- No history of Medicare/Medicaid citations for fraud involvement or prior history of convictions.
- Current BLS Certification upon hire.
