Galveston County Health District is seeking a Bilingual WIC Clerk I!
This position is responsible for entering data into the WIC automated system, downloading food benefits onto the WIC lone star smart card, maintaining lone star smart card inventory, assisting with the certification process, conducts hemoglobin or hematocrit test (blood test) on applicable WIC clients.

Required:
- Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent.
- Bilingual in Spanish required.
- 1 plus years of related work experience preferred.
- Nutrition, WIC or public health experience a plus.
- Advanced Data Entry skills.
- Ability for spur of the moment transportation without relying on organization vehicles.
- Must possess or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Texas for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
- Department of Motor Vehicle check may be required, if applicable.
- Customer Service Oriented.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent Computer Skills MS Office.
- Must be willing and able to work evening and weekend hours if necessary.
- Must be in compliance with GCHD Immunizations policy.
- Must be in compliance with ICS training requirements.
- Must pass criminal background check and drug/alcohol screening.
An equivalent combination of education and work experience which appropriately demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the above-described essential functions will be considered when hiring for this role.
Traditional Duties:
- Maintain volunteer database and schedule.
- Will perform routine business functions, such as scheduling, maintaining inventory, and processing paperwork.
- Must maintain confidentiality.
- Schedules WIC clients into appropriate categorical nutrition education classes.
- Collects required signatures of participants.
- Generates automated no-show reports and labels.
- Generates appointment listings, program operational reports, download food benefits to the WIC lone star smart card.
- Processes incoming referrals and physicals.
- Updates client data; maintains inventory and security of automated food instruments.
- Provides resource information and refers clients to other agencies.
- Certifies WIC participants, conducts hemoglobin or hematocrit test (blood test) on applicable WIC clients in accordance with WIC guidelines, and assists with weights and heights and receives incoming calls.
- Cross-trains with other staff to provide back-up and support, including assisting with vendor education.
- Obtaining medical and financial data from clients.
- Screens client immunization records.
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
