WHAT YOU WILL DO
FriendFinder Networks is looking for a talented Senior PostreSQL (With MySQL) Database Administrator is responsible for the installation, configuration, upgrading, monitoring, maintenance, security, and administration of databases. S/he will create and administer databases, ensure data integrity, backup and recovery of data, performance tuning, restores for mission critical systems, and resolve production issues. Your contributions will ensure the best possible user experience for everyone who visits our web sites 24 hours a day, every day of the year, all over the world.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Subject Matter Expert for Database Product and functionalities in PostgreSQL and MySQL.
- Manage all aspects of day-to-day PostgreSQL operations including installation, patching, upgrades, managing users, looking into performance, help users with improving queries and look after backups.
- Act diligently to respond to urgent projects and tasks
- Analyze and Resolve Database performance issues.
- Develop and implement automated solutions by leveraging DevOps construct
- Define workarounds for known errors and initiate process improvements.
- Designs logical and physical data models and schemas
- Provides guidance on migration of on-premises workloads to the k8s
- Performing maintenance tasks like Vacuuming, Clustering, Reindex, Analyze
- Creating Tablespaces, Schemas, Users, profiles and implementing various adjustments in postgresql.conf file and granting users and application access through pg_hba.conf file etc.
- Troubleshoot database issues, maintain database systems availability, stability, and scalability.
- Function as mentor and adviser for team members.
- Postgres database installation, upgrade, patching, maintenance, security functions.
- Support database operations and adhere to Change Management policies and procedures.
- Tune SQLs statements to ensure optimal performance.
- Troubleshoot database issues, maintain database systems availability, stability, and scalability.
- Develop and Enforce standards, policies, and procedures for managing databases
WHAT YOU MUST HAVE
- 5+ years of experience managing PostgreSQL / MySQL databases in a production environment
- Experience supporting production database environments greater than 3TB.
- Experience with table partitioning and replication.
- In-depth knowledge of PostgreSQL / MySQL functionality and features.
- Experience troubleshooting database and SQL performance issues.
- Experience working collaboratively with application development teams to implement solutions.
- Candidate stays up to date with PostgreSQL / MySQL news or is involved with community
- Ability to work off-hours as needed and be on-call
- Strong experience in production support and maintenance of high availability database systems with ability to manage large scale database projects.
- Experience of Scripting (shell, Perl, or Python, etc.) and automation tools (Ansible, chef, git, etc.)
- Experience in PostgreSQL / MySQL replication, backups and recovery strategies.
- Experience working with pg_basebackup
- Experience working with Kubernetes (Provision Postgres in k8s and setting database backups in k8s).
- Experience working collaboratively with application development teams to implement solutions
- Good knowledge of SQL and database related technologies.
- Able to work under pressure, handling multiple assignments, and additional responsibilities.
- Good team player with strong analytical, communication and troubleshooting skills
WHAT IS PREFERABLE TO HAVE
- Knowledge of and experience with replication between multiple database instances
- Strong understanding of Linux operating system
- Be proficient with tuning, diagnostic, and backup of PostreSQL and MySQL
- Ability to write/hack PERL
- NoSQL experience (desirable)
- Some experience with Dataguard
- Some experience with MyISAM/InnoDB/Cluster
