HEAD GARDENER

Duties & Responsibilities:
Experienced, detail-oriented, gardener with 2 years of formal horticultural education or training and 2 years of gardening or landscape maintenance experience, preferably in public garden or private estate. A strong team player with a flexible mindset and a passion for horticulture and design, experience in container gardening a must, as is a valid drivers license.
Responsibilities Include:
Support Displays Coordinator with the install, maintenance, and rotation of detail oriented 4-Season planters, garden beds, and meadows. This individual must have the ability to perform a full range of horticultural tasks and duties with minimum guidance, including:
- The installation and maintenance of seasonal planters and garden beds, which include diverse plantings of annuals, tropicals, perennials, shrubs, grasses, and bulbs.
- Skilled with hand watering, fertilization, dead-heading, and monitoring the well being of plantings as required.
- Perform detailed oriented, seasonal landscape work normally required in the trade of gardening, following recognized procedures and techniques for such work such as, pruning of various climbers and shrubs, weeding, clean up, and mulching.
- Responsible for and operate gardening tools and equipment such as weed eaters, leaf blowers, and lawn mowers.
**Knowledge of native plants, meadow gardening, and floral design a plus.

Must be able to perform a wide range of Professional Gardening Techniques and Duties including but not limited to:
- Planting & transplanting of woody and herbaceous plants
- Pruning and a willingness to learn proper pruning techniques
- Hand Edging of Garden Beds
- Detailed grooming of plants
- Weeding of gardens beds
- Mulching of garden beds
- Maintain and care for tools, equipment and vehicles
- Transporting of materials & debris
- Maintain records of client properties and daily duties preformed
- Supervision of crew (1-3 people)
- Cooperate with other gardeners
- Ability to communicate with co-workers and clients
- Carry and use a smart phone or data-enabled device for communication and reporting
Qualifications & Skills
- Practical horticultural experience
- Knowledge of plant material
- Ability to safely operate equipment (leaf blower, chainsaw, leaf shredder)
- Must have a valid driver’s license & clean driving record
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Ability and willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability and willingness to work weekends as needed
Work Time:
Full Time, Seasonal/Hourly/ Annually Reoccurring
March 1- December 31
Monday - Friday, Saturdays optional
