The mission of the Parsons Preschool is to provide a warm, caring, and stimulating early childhood environment that is safe and nurturing. Summary:
The special education teacher is responsible for providing developmentally appropriate instruction to the children enrolled in Parsons Preschool. The teacher is responsible for ensuring that all NYC, NYS and DOH regulations for the health and safety of the children are maintained.
We are a 12 Months Program (School Calendar).
Responsibilities:
Maintain a safe and nurturing environment that encourages growth in cognition, communication, motor development, social/emotional skills and adaptive living skills.
Sets up appropriate room arrangement to encourage individual, small group and large group activities. Ensures that all learning areas and play materials are linguistically labeled to encourage literacy and to develop organized thinking by the children.
Writes comprehensive weekly lesson plans that align with the monthly Thematic Unit and with NYS Common Core Learning Standards. Submits these plans to the Educational Director when due.
Is able to utilize standardized educational testing tools (ie. DAYC-2) to evaluate children annually. Develops and writes comprehensive evaluation reports based on the testing results.
Is able to write developmentally appropriate summaries and goals on IEPs. The teacher is responsible for participating in Annual Review and/or Requested Review IEP meetings.
Implements BIPs and maintains careful documentation of behavioral issues.
Writes comprehensive quarterly progress reports, detailing the progress and on-going needs of the children.
Maintains an orderly room in which materials are neatly kept. Organizes and stores children’s ETRs in a locked cabinet to ensure confidentiality.
Organizes children’s work into assessment portfolios that are anecdotally labeled and dated to track children’s progress.
Applicant Must:
NYS Certification ( Birth-Grade 2) in special Education
